Niicee!! :D

I had been thinking of getting AthlonX2 since a long time!

looks like its time to upgrade my 'upgrade plans'!!

Thanks DarkStar! :D

It seems these are gonna be good chips but lets see AMD's pricing AMD always screws up pricing in India if the Phenom II X2 550 will be available at about 4.5k it would be a good pick.

But then again Intel would still have a cheaper platform cost for the lower end considering their G31 boards are riced at a meager 2.3k and can deliver quite an OC whereas the basic 780G board is at 4k. Also if you complain about better onboard gfx well what i can see is that putting in another 2k will get you an 8400GS which will perform far better than any onboard solution.

p2 x2 550 etc canbe unlocked to quads ....whoppie can make 5k quads now:D

AMD Phenom II X2 550 and AMD Athlon II X2 250 Processors Review (page 15) - X-bit labs

quoted by Legit reviews

Moving on to the AMD Phenom II X2 550 we found that with the stock BIOS settings, the processor runs with a 200MHz bus speed and an x15.5 multiplier that is used to reach the final core clock of 3.1GHz. This processor is multiplier unlocked, so when overclocking you can raise both the multiplier and the bus speed to help 'fine tune' the overclock.

AMD Phenom II X2 550 Overclock

We increased the multiplier from x15.5 all the way up to x19 and then increased the bus speed from 200MHz to 215MHz with little effort. This was enough to break the 4GHz mark as the overall clock frequency was 4.09Ghz, which is great. This is an overclock of 985MHz, which is roughly what we saw on the Athlon II X2 250 processor. It seems both of these processors love to be overclocked at we were able to get nearly 1GHz overclocks with air cooling! Not bad for $87 (₨ 4,070) and $102 (₨ 4,771) processors if you ask us. :D:D:D

Though these are good competitive products but I am a little disappointed.... Power consumption is still high while it cannot go 4Ghz stable on air... But still AMD has something worthwhile to go against Intel....

Now AMD should price them much lower than E7400 to do any damage to Intel's market share..... Lets see how much is the asking price in India....

^^man it wud go beyond 4.5ghz for sure. They have just increased the multiplier to 19 and fsb by 15.

I do believe they can do 4Ghz but not stable on air.... High TDP could be blamed here... :(

On other notes, AMD also released the six core Istanbul proccy for server today, sadly its not able to yet compete with Nehalem...

X2 550 3.1Ghz is faster @ E7400 @ 2.93GHz @ stock,

Clock to clock Intel still has edge, and dont forget E5200/E6300/E7400 etc overclock to 4.3GHz when seriously pushed :P

X2 550 doesnt scale good with overclock -

i think intel cpus are overclocked increasing the fsb thats why gain is more compared to only multiplier overclock of AMD "BE" .

Yup clock to clock c2d gives it a run. however considering the price. Amd still roxx:hap2:

valid point. Shud be so. I wonder wt fsb the A2 and P2 canbe pushed.

For AMD this means this is the fastest dual-core processor to date, and for that 102 USD it is just a really okay processor running all the latest applications and games just fine and dandy. Realistically the difference in-between the X2 250 and X2 550 performance wise is roughly 10%. The one thing that this article showed was that for gamers, the Phenom II X2 processor definitely is the way to go.

More interesting I find to be the fact that the Phenom II X2 550 BE is coming awfully close in performance to the 165 USD Core 2 Duo E8400 processor from Intel.

^ Yeah we all know extra 3mb cache of E8000 series hardly offer any improvement over E7000 series in gaming, only n00b or some one with mobo having crap FSB limits with quad core CPU will buy E8400 now. Newer R0 steppings of E7000 series are overclocking good.

If U see winrar benches, E8000 does shines, extra cache helps here.
