I dont want to know "how to" exactly..i mean if the cores are present, why is there a need to unlock them?

Because they've been disabled...

either to sell them as lower processors at lower price, or incase the 4th core is tad defective....

How is asus M4A485TDV-EVO?

AthlonII X4 630 available @6.2k. Is it a good price? Or should i go for phenom X4 925@ 7k?

Athlon II X4 630 should not be more than 5.2-5.3k.

And phenom x4 925 is any day better (if you game a lot).

Phenom Processors have L3 cache which is missing from the Athlon X4's . Cache comes in handy while gaming and number crunching i guess. and for ur usage pattern, the AthlonII X4 is fine. So you can save some money.

For motherboard, If gigabyte is not available, these are the options in the order of preference :

MSI 785G E53 -- 5600/-

MSI 790GX-G65 -- 7000/-

Asus 785TD-V-EVO -- 6800/-

The last two bords support crossfire, so if you are not planning to use more than 1 GPU, MSI 785G-E53 is fine for your needs.

will i be able to play the latest games in athlon smoothly?

wont mind paying a bit more for phenom if its future proof. say a year or two more then athlon 630.

Nothing is future proof, except Core i9 and Core i7, and when Bulldozer comes, everything will look like babies..

But, I suggest you grab the Phenom II X4 955 3.2GHz B.E. @ 7.9k, IMHO it's an EXCELLENT deal.
