Go ahead and get the gtx 260 core 216 its awesome i've been maxing every game at 1080p. nvidia driver also rock

GTX 260 any day if it wasn't palit Vs sapphire.
sapphire has one of the best RMA and build quality is decent....not too happy with palit cards

+1. Palit cards are not that great. infact very poorly made cards. try to go for another brand . else go with the sapphire 4870. rest is your choice. even zotac gtx 260 is better than Palit. i'd recommend xfx gtx 260Gowt1ham said:GTX 260 any day if it wasn't palit Vs sapphire.

How many of you who say Palit cards are inferior have experienced it first hand, or its just hear-says
I have Palit 4850 dual-slot cooler and the performance of this card is absolutely brilliant, such overclocking potential @ super temps
At load, it doesn't go beyond 45C
by coincidence, all my friends are presently having Palit cards and all the cards are working great

and by coincidence , all my friends who have palit cards are ruing the day they bought them. my cousin purchased the palit 4850 dual one and has it rma'ed twice. god knows how many days will the third one last. Palit cards are great for those who are on a budget. cause they are very cheap but inferior.(its my view. plz dnt take it personally). but if you have the neccessary cash (1k or 2k more) you will never go for a Palit card. at least i will not. Evga or XFX is the way to go for me. even if i have to spend an extra K on them.
Let us advise rather than converting every damned thread into a DC thread, shall we?
@ OP: And you're going to use one of these cards on that 17 inch screen? *points towards the siggy*- overkill and waste of money and firepower. Stick to ati 4670 IMO. If you're going to say "I will buy one later", I suggest you buy a screen now and buy one card later.

Prices for graphic cards fall way faster than LCD screens- either you will get this card in a cheaper price later and/or cards that are usually priced around 12-14k now come crashing down after 3 months. In both the scenarios, people will start selling their old cards and not-so-old cards eventually. We already have people 2 month/week old cards being sold. Games ain't going to run away anyways. Besides, that circle case that you have, I assume its good enough to house a card like the gtx 260 or 4870. More fans doesn't mean better cooling. As for which company, personally- sapphire. I would say palit if they haven't stopped making ati cards. Also keep an eye on threads if they don't emphasize whether it is imported via KMD or locally bought.

Yup as scorccy said GPU prices reduce like 50% every 6 months. Investing in a monitor now and getting a card later would be a goo ida

although there have been so many cases of palit cards failing..i have had none failing. in past 1.5yrs i have dealt with 5 palit cards.. (2x 4670, 1x 4850, 2x 9600GT)
all of them are working without any issues till present.
but again, it's a matter of probability..so get one that has max warranty left ( as you said it is 2nd hand)

i'd say get the gtx260. Do check out how prompt Palit is in RMA service. If there are no complaints, then go ahead and get the gtx260.
Dont want to start a flame war, but ATI and their driver problems are really irritating. I have myself had such problems on atleast 3 different in a span of 4-5 months.

Beat me to it.Unless he's getting the 4870 second hand real cheap,I'd certainly wouldn't consider it an option.The 5770 or if he could wait a bit,the 5830 would be the obvious choice if he decides to go for a new one.nitant said:
