I suggest you wait and get the GTX 580 in India.....

Its alot better if you buy here and you can easily get the card repaired here

Where do you stay and why don't you ask around wether you can procure the HD 5970 locally the warranty will be much better and hassle free + why this urge of getting only a ATI HD 5970 wouldn't a more mainstream card like Nvidia GTX 470 or ATi AMD HD 6870 suit your needs, just asking out of curiosity :)

@ALPHA17

I need to game at 1920*1080 res with all settings as high as possible including crysis. Also I will not be changing the card for another 3 years or so. So this card should do the job till then. Do you have any suggestions for these requirements. Also I am not ultra rich and I dont have money to throw. This is a big purchase for me and i am getting a 5970 at Rs.22000 almost, that is at the price of a 5870 so I am tempted.

P.S: I am actually feeling bad I bought a 22inch monitor now because I now have to buy a big card to game at the native res.:-(

Thanks for your reply and waiting for your suggestions:-)

I stay in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh

As per my understanding you will not notice any difference between 1080p and 720p in a small screen like 22 inch,if you use this pc to play games in big LCD TV then it will make sense.

u will end up paying more than 22k as u also need to pay customs and shipping

the total will be close to the price of a 580 which is as good as a 580

so i suggest get the 580 here and save ur self the hassle

@ OP

Just to give you an idea, I can play almost all games @ Full HD on 24" with utmost settings - with my 4870 512mb

this includes so far --> COD-MW2, Divinity2, Saints Row2, Risen, Alpha protocol. Offcourse there could be one or two games that would push for a lot more.

I would suggest never to think of gfx card as a long term option. It never works out that way.

Better is to invest in a mid-end of high mid-end solution and after 18 months sell it and get a similar solution at that point in time

Get a new 6870 or a used 5870 at a good price from TE market. These used cards will mostly have 2+ years warranty and will serve you well @ these resolutions.

It makes little sense getting gfx cards from Newegg. There are only two options

Ask your contacts to buy it from US and bring it here - 500$ + no warranty

Get it thru ICCWorld or Ebay Global - 500$ + at-least 100$ as commission + no warranty

Good point made by Spectre and I feel 6870 should be the best one for your monitor..
Eg of how GPU market changes...460 launched just 3months back is going to RIP soon and reborn as 560....Geforce GTX 560 comes next year has 384 shaders

@thegame so do you think a 6870 will suffice my needs? crysis? and the hell load of games coming out this year? It would be cool if a 6870 is sufficient because it would be an easy buy for me. And i cant change the card soon so i want something that performs atleast passably after an year or two atleast. And any similar cards from nvidia?

Crysis isn't the ultimate game! What's the big deal about it anyways?-just some pretty graphics! I never enjoyed the game very much - I've had more fun playing COD or Battlefield or Gears of War. I can max everything with my 5850. You don't need the 5970. Don't look at these high end cards as a long term solution. consider spending 10-15k max and then upgrade after two years.

@sunny27 yes i know that crysis is not the utimate game, but i always loved eye candy and dreamed of playing crysis while it is looking beautiful and also i view being able to run crysis properly as being future proof atleast for two more years. Am i understanding anything wrong? And any card suggestions from your side? I want the best VFM and very good performance.

Nvidia Gtx 460/ Ati 5850 will serve you very nicely if I am right for atleast the next 18 months.

with my config I was able to play crysis at the max settings with decent fps 50+ (1440*900) and it was really awesome...6870 is somewhere around 8-12% faster than 5850

and my suggesstion is bro wait for a couple of months when 6950 and 6970 (actual replacements of 5850 and 5870) arrive and wait for the review sites to come up with the benchmarks..but believe me or not your BP will rise a lot when your are planning to buy a new GPU as news of newer cards appear all the time and u will be really tensed when and what to buy :) (me after 2 months of thinking got 5850 in june, month later 460 came out and last month 6870 and it will go on..)

I guess you can put an end to this when 6950,6970 and gtx 560 come out.. so if you can, hold on till jan11 or the best option will be to get 6870 if u need one now urgently..

5970 Vs gtx 580 review

Introduction - Performance - GeForce GTX 580 vs. Radeon HD 5970 2GB Performance | [H]ard|OCP

6850 CF is comparable to a 5970 and 6870 CF >=5970.

I would recommend either of the above setups.

If not, then GTX 580.

Now I almost decided to buy a 6870 now and then add another after an year or so. But my mobo has only one pcie slot(it is a dg33). So i will need to change the mobo too when I add the second 6870. Is this idea good, or can someone give any other idea that would cost less than all this and give me more performance? Also can someone give the least price for which I might be able to buy a 6870 and where(online and offline).

@thegame I have been waiting to buy a graphics card since the time gtx 295 was the fastest card on the planet, waitng thinking a much better card might be right around the corner:-) I really dont know whether to wait still more or not

Sell your 6870 after a year and get a mid-high single chip card released then.
What PSU you have

What the hell is this?
AMD Radeon HD 6870 review from TechRadar UK's expert reviews of Graphics cards
Is this true? If it is true I am feeling buying a gtx460 is better.???
500W PSU -- what brand?? any branded ones like Corsair, Antec should be fine for 460 or 6870

btw techpowerup shows 460 (normal and not the overclocked EVGA in your link) is 17% slower than 6870 (1920*1200 resolution)
HIS Radeon HD 6870 1 GB Review - Page 29/33 | techPowerUp

DIRT2 in techpowerup shows 6870 @ 84.1fps and 460 @ 61.7 fps ...HIS Radeon HD 6870 1 GB Review - Page 14/33 | techPowerUp
DIRT2 in guru3d shows 6870 @ 70fps and 460 @ 53 fps ... Gigabyte Radeon HD 6870 review
DIRT2 in tomshardware shows 6870 @ 59.5fps and 460 @ 51.7 fps ...Benchmark Results: DiRT 2 : AMD Radeon HD 6870 And 6850: Is Barts A Step Forward?
again all these depends on the test system but in common 6870 > 460

but now in your link for DIRT2, 6870 -- 66fps and 460 -- 81fps

checking Newegg..the EVGA 460 FTW costs around 220$ with rebate ..Newegg.com - EVGA 01G-P3-1377-TR GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) FTW 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card
and a basic 6870 starts at 270$ -- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127530
therefore with your link and newegg prices 460 > 6870...

my best advice is better stop pc gaming and go outside and play physical games that will not only keep you healthy but also free from these mental tensions of choosing which GPU@$%^:bleh::P and they are very cost effective infact no cost at all:clap::clap:

on a serious note..wait for 6950,6970 and 560 and first point check whether they will be ok with your PSU else for your resolution i still favour 6870..hope others here can help you out with more info..

..

lol:-)

And do u know whether that overclocked version is available in india? And does any gpu company offer international warranty?

And also do you think I will get less performance than a 6870 or 460 can deliver with my Intel Core2Quad 9400 2.67Ghz 6mb L2 cache?
