ATI should finalize the development of „RV870“ 40nm DirectX 11 chip at some point in August. This is what our usually well informed sources have confirmed. We are talking about the cards and chips should already be taped out a while ago.

The real launch and mass production should happen in very late Q3, probably in late September, and real availability is expected in October.

From this point, it looks like that ATI might have a month or two head start, as Nvidia's „GT300“ should show its face in very late Q4 2009. All in all, it will be very interesting Q4 but this also denotes that most of July and at least half of August will be rather graphically boring.

with 40nm they can double the amount of shaders almost making it 2 times faster than it HD4xxx counter part. A Hd5870 is expected to be twice as fast as an HD4870 it the same size or maybe even smaller. But now days it all about efficiency which this new design has.

They can make it 1.5x faster instead of 2x and bring in the ultra efficiency, for all that I care... if they price it like 48xx series and add at least 50% (and I'm talking minimum) of performance with greater efficiency, they'll continue with their winning streak.

With 40nm Power efficiency should also improve... Lesser heat is expected... Off late all gpu's are power guzzlers... I also hope they implement some kind of power management to bring down idle power consumption as well..

I second you.. or they should bring out a technology that can stop the card when its not needed while in an OS loaded.

Any news on what games with hit the market with it ? We should see some amazing games soon with DX11. I wonder if this will make crysis playable on a single card :D

 i doubt that very very much, If nasa could run it @ all high for 10 minutes and then crash!.. it would be highly improbable to run it @ all high on a single card.

However.. who says crysis isn't playable on a single card? :P
