All the three novelties – Mobility Radeon X1350, Mobility Radeon X1450 and Mobility Radeon X1700 – have 12 pixel shader processors, 5 vertex shader processors and 4 texture units, just like the Radeon X1600-series visual processing units. The difference between the newcomers is performance as well as process technologies. Obviously, the new mobile chips support Avivo technology as well as other capabilities of the Radeon X1000 family.
“With the Mobility Radeon X1K family, ATI continues its commitment to offering mobile users unrivaled dedicated graphics performance without sacrificing long battery life,†said Phil Eisler, senior vice president and general manager, integrated and mobile business unit, ATI Technologies.
The new chips also support PowerPlay 6.0 technology to trim power consumption as well as are produced using TSMC’s 90nm process technology that supports back bias, mixed Vt and dynamic voltage control. In addition to that, ATI used strained silicon 90nm manufacturing process of TSMC, which allows higher clock-speeds, to manufacture the Mobility Radeon X1700. Given that chip redesign is not required to apply strained silicon, the company did not have to change the Mobility Radeon X1600 ASIC for the model X1700.
Representatives for ATI said that the new chips are pin-to-pin compatible with predecessors and currently the company is working with notebook makers, including Asus, Packard Bell and Toshiba among others, to integrate the new series of Mobility Radeon graphics processing units.
