does it repairable ?
now i am getting z5500 and this time this card is dead...
guys is my mobo onboard sound good enough ? Asus P5B Delux WiFi.
if not then i have to start WTB thread in market section for good sound card.

^ Not all sound-cards have bit-perfect output over S/PDIF / TOSLink.

About repairing your Audigy, try handing it in to the creative RMA center there itself and give it a shot. Though onboard sound will probably be fine for now. In any case, AFAIK the Audigy2 ZS never had bit-perfect output either.

^^There's not much diff to be had from bit perfect output to a Z5500 anyway . I'm sure it'll sound the same even if you mangle a few bits here and there :P.

AA-
Clean the whole card with some good quality IP- use a soft brush- dry it well in shade.
Scrub the pci fingers lightly with a soft tissue paper.
Try a few more times.
Did the same to a 7-8 yrs old SB live that was idle since past 2-3 yrs and lying around gathering dust.
Same issue of not getting detected- but i was hoping it wasn't dead as it was retired in a working condition. :)
Did take some hrs to get it working but it worked. :O :P
I hope you get lucky too. :)

Not everyone has gramophone like ears to pick up bit-perfect stuff. :bleh:
And there are many of those who find bit-perfect stuff a bit imperfect after being used to boomy or coloured o/p over the years. :P

Aaah... Typical Chaos theory...

His frequency response is a lot diff from us [1Hz to 1MHz] and ours is kinda 25Hz to 50KHz; :bleh:

J/k;

The point is still valid.

A Z5500 isn't particularly revealing. I had not heard one till last night, and the experience was moving, in more ways than one - specifically in the bowel region.

Anything more than onboard audio is a waste on that set of speakers, IMO. It's not worth spending big bucks on a card for that set. Don't want to hurt the TS as he's probably looking forward to the purchase. And he should, it's a pretty capable gaming set.

The fact is that once you acquire a taste for high-end audio (if you do, as not all do) you can't go back to these kind of speakers. The difference is like that between country liquor and single malt. Both achieve the same end result, but the means are totally different (as are the prices).

Sig material!!

well guys...
i have S/PDIF connector on my onboard sound. but cable is not included in package. its not there with z5500 also.
and i am not audio expert. i just want to get bit better than what i am getting if possible. i searched for such audio cable but couldnt find.
will it be just optical single cable capable of delivering 6 channel audio / dolby etc... ?
well i have set volume level to 40% and i dont find any Boom Boom.
and when i run it as Stereo mode + Creative Xmod - i can hear much more bits.... i am talking about low level music effects..... i am not audio master.

just let me know is it going to really improve audio quality if use S/PDIF. and what is TOSLink ? it is not mentioned anywhere on mobo ?

but overall i am happy with speakers... at least for my PC.

get an RCA cable , the type you use to connect vcd player to tv. use that to connect SPDIF output from your onboard to the Z5500 :)
