Audigy Value - 4 slots & still 7.1?

I wanted to opt for this sound card for my home PC. This one claims to be a 7.1 card but it has only 4 slots on it's panel. How can it support 7.1?

Generally most of the mobos nowadays actually have 5/6 RCA slots. The only thing I can assume is that this one has stereo slots instead of the standard RCA slots. Basically for future proofing (as much as i can with the Audigy value), what kind of 5.1 budget speakers would work with a card like this one?

Any alternate card recommendations in the same budget?

So we are restricted to speakers which has jacks like these. I remember having Creative 4.1 with jacks like these. Generally do 5.1 speakers have jacks like these or are they regular RCA ones (to be used for home theatres)?

no, the connections are hooked up so that they are backward compatible with 4.1, 5.1, and possibly 6.1 speakers as well :). you just plug the jacks in like any other sound card and they will still work :)

PS. with soundcards, you dont have to worry much about future proofing. My 4 year old Audigy2ZS is overkill for most games right now , and with vista taking soundcards a massive step backward, will remain overkill for an even longer time :P

Hey Greenhorn - can you please explain this? Does this mean that Vista does not extract the best out of the soundcards?

there is no support for hardware accelerated sound in vista. any EAX etc effects are now done by the CPU and not by the soundcard, so the EAX features in the Audigy 2 ZS/4/X Fi are largely redundant now
