Well frankly you're comparing it to crap aren't you? A MRP 599$ top of the line to the x3i? Lol; compare it to the RS-1, DT880 and K701 if you will; don't insult those Senns. If you say it sounds great on onboard, you have no idea just how good they can sound; because IMO they sound crap without amping; but then that's a discerning user for you.

^^As said; spend big once, and enjoy good music forever. Sadly once you spend on an amp and a DAC, you just want better stuff; its the same old hardware upgrade curve; at least for me...

No No, you don't get me. These are my dads headphones. I used to 'borrow' them from time to time and did not have the time to bring along my dads homemade amp.

Also people are saying that the HD650 will not sound good and its better to buy a cheap headphone instead if you are not using an amp + high end soundcard. I just wanted to say that it still sounds better than cheap stuff even without all the high end equipment.

So techie007 can still get the AD700 and it will sound much better than the Philips or whatever cheap headphones he gets.

There you go again. Now me all confused all over :P

Nah dude, stick with cheaper stuff if you dont listen to much music.

I would have loved to buy the AD700 for 5k since its a really good price and its in Mumbai. But I use headphones primarily for gaming and only sometimes for music. Since my listen to music is quite rare, I can't justify paying so much to use it only for gaming.

Hey how about upgrading that cheap tube amp of yours and selling it to me ? :ohyeah:

@Tech_007
What I have read time and again and what I would suggest you that buy the best headphones that can with your available budget.
Amongst your audio setup:Headphones,Soundcard or DAC+Amp,interconnects etc the most important are the Headphones.A good pair of headphones will always shine as the rest of the equipment gets upgraded.
For a given setup,say even for onboard audio! a good headphone will still sound better than a mediocre one,unless until its one of the high impedance beyers for example where an amp is a necessity and not a choice.
Just recently got the AD-700s btw,using it with an Audigy Value.

Heh; that "cheap amp" happens to drive the HD 650 very well. Moreover if its so cheap; buy a new one :P

Plus its a hybrid amp; not a tube :P So your informed buying decision isn't so.

Thirdly I want to keep one hybrid amp in my kitty; going SS now; but not selling the old one.

Agree with you on the HD 650 sounding better unamped as compared to crappy cans.
