Hey guys,

Was wondering if anyone here in Mumbai has one of the three headphones listed above. I'm very keen to buy a pair of M50 (when my conscience allows it) - and a friend too is looking to buy either M50 or one of the Grado headphones mentioned.

So, I'd love to audition 'em if someone here owns a pair. It would really help me make my buying decision.

I'll buy you a beer for your efforts!

@Anubhav:

I'd love to come to Delhi :)

How do you like the SR125? A friend is looking to buy portable cans, not sure if SR125 are portable as such, but going by specs they seem to be easy to drive.

@Strategy:

Noted, thanks! Friend wants to buy cans for up to 9k - so he wants to audition 'em. And, you have a pretty interesting collection of IEMs. Good stuff!

Grado SR125's are just Amazing set of can's !!!

At 9k , u will get king of MIDS , plus overall sound stage perfect . Not for bass heads , but still bass is very much perfect , the perfect thump which should be there . it is there !

Most important of all, they are easy to drive , amplification isn't needed at all .

Thanks for the feedback :) I'm going to ask my friend to check 'em out. They fit perfectly in his budget. I think his only concern is that they're open air.

Hmm..so your friend is looking for a closed can ?

Grado are great for as far as sound is concerned but they are open-ear :(

Also all the grados ( below SR325 are of almost same size )

so if you call the Sr60 portable ..so is SR125 and Sr225.

9K is a modest budget for A HP ...tbut the thing is ...8-10K there are not much good HPs :( . dont get me wrong.. There are GOOD HPs in this range ...but if you spend 2-3K more ..you get something a LOT better !

consider the Grado sr125 v/s SR225 for example ...the price difference is not much ( 9.3 for 125 v/s 12.7K for 225 ) but the Sr225 are a lot better than SR125 !

SO i sugget , IF you are looking in to grados ...buy the SR80 OR the SR225 ...not the SR60 or SR125.

Remember the grado are strictly for MUSIC ..with Movies and games their revealing sound and unique signature is a NO go.

M50 are good too ...but a lot different than Grados ..THese have great bass response ..good for movies/music/games

Both are Easy to drive ...so perfect for portable Use :)

Thanks for the detailed response strategy :) really appreciate it!

If open cans aren't a problem, I think my friend will mostly pick up the SR80 - I've heard a lot of good things about 'em as well.

So, I'm going to let me friend know.

And as for me, I'm really, really looking to buy myself a pair of M50, so when I have the funds, I think I'm going to make the dive (probably by Feb) and pick 'em up :)

I have the ATH-M50s on loan but I somehow don't like the bass. Too boomy for me but bassheads will be at home especially since the midrange and treble is not too bad in comparison to the bass.

I also have the SR225 on loan and thats a much better headphone IMO but its not very portable as it has practically no isolation whatsoever. You are going to hear the horns, external noises in addition to the music.

Out of the two the SR225 has a more natural/balanced sound compared to the ATH- M50s with still plenty of bass to satisfy me but there is little sub bass.

Also I do not subscribe to the statement that the SR225 are easy to drive. Their sensitivity is just 98 which is lower than even the 103 sensitivity of the HD650 that I have and the 106db sensitivity of the Denon D5000 that I also have on loan. An amp is very much recommended for the SR225.

The ATH-M50s are slightly better at 99 db but have a higher impedance of 38 ohms and an amp (or a powerful source) is also recommended for them as well. Only the Denon D5000 seemed easy to drive even out of portable sources ! :P

Any chance me and my friend could perhaps audition these? I'm very keen on trying out the M50's.

When, where? Details, details! I have a work related meeting on 2nd, BUT I really want to try and make it :(

You should definately come for the audio meet on the 2nd of Jan dude.

There will be a lot of headphones and earphones foe you to try out, just get your favorite music along or else suffer the wrath of Brendons Celine dion collection ;) peace Celine !! :P

The m50 is more portable, more fun and more comfy than the grados.

The grados are more neutral, more open sounding, more refined and more like reference hps(the kind you would like if you like picking every string from a guitar strum) or maybe the kind of headphone you would like if you would like to know if the violinist in the 3rd row of a symphony missed a tune.

The sr60 are nice, the sr80 just have a lil more bass. If you like more bass in your sound then you would prefer the sr80. The sr125 are more open sounding and are a lil more refined than the previous two.

The sr225 is what the sr125 is to the sr80/60, more open sounding and more refined. They even advt it that way that the sr225 is 50% more vented than the sr125.

A headphone which is more open will have a lesser isolation. It will make a live/open mic recording sound more lively but it would destroy the while experience if there is a lotta noise around you when your listening to your music.

So choose wisely.

I really do want to come, but I have a meeting on the same day - entire day unfortunately (work related). If it's a regular fixture, I really hope to attend the next one, if not, then I hope if everyone is OK it can be pushed back by a week. I'll get some budget IEMs along for auditioning :P

I really want to try out the TF10s and ATH-M50 among other phones! Like really, really.

^ Hmm if you stay nearby you could fix a meeting with the respective owners on day/time convenient to both of you.

Yeah I think I'll have to do that. I shall PM the guys, although I want to try out a lot of stuff. Hoping my meeting gets pushed to next week but seems unlikely.

Thanks a ton folks :)
