hi,

Im planning to go to Singapore in July & want to buy a AV Receiver & Bookshelf speakers from there.

My usage will be: 75% Music / 25% Movies.

I have shortlisted these AV Receivers:

Denon AVR-1507

Marantz SR4600

I am TOTALLY confused abt the speakers though..!

I need a really good pair of Bookshelves, keeping in mind the usage i mentioned..

I have a budget of around 300 S$ (8k Rs) for the bookshelves..

Please lemme know of your recommendations..!

Also, let me know of good reliable shops from where i could buy them.

P.S: Any online retailers where i cud check the prices..?

^ Get the Marantz SR-4001 basically the SR-4600 with the dual HDMI inputs.

For 75% music, stay away from Denon, tend to be very lean, good dynamics but lack of warmth.

Check HK too, all the best !

For 8k, you'll only get the Wharfedale Diamond 9.1

then the SR4001 it is!! apparently its even cheaper in S'pore than wat i had thought..

Suggstns abt the Bookshelves?? Lotsa spkrs are in the 300 S$ range:- PSB Alpha B1 , Polk Audio Monitors , Cambridge Audio SR30 ... there is just too many choices..!

Plus, how much wud a basic 5.1 package from Sonodyne/other good Indian brand cost?

Coz i will add the bookshelves + these 5.1 to make a complete 7.1 for DVDs etc..

how much are you getting it for in Sg?

also, if your planning to use it to drive a pair of bookslelves, why not get a stereo Amp?

you can get a far better Stereo amp than a A/V receiver for the same price

@ delhiboy - I suggest you start with a pair of budget floostanders instead of bookshelves. You'll save the cash on an extra sub and can invest in good wiring too.

Once you have the money add a sub and two bookshelves from a company like Wharfedale to complete the 5.1 effect.

Add a center and reposition the bookshelves to get you 7.1 :)

@ czar - Check this ;)

@superczar: gettin the SR4001 for 500 S$. As Zhop has pointed out im gonna buy the Bookshelves+ AVR from Sg and a Sonodyne/Indian brand 5.1 package locally and that y need the AVR to drive the 7.1.

@Anish: is there really that big a difference b/w Floorstndrs & Bookshlvs??

Coz i do hav really good wooden stands to put the BS on..

@ Zhop: thats the idea !!

That will be quite a mismatched system. In a HT, it is essential that at least the front three speakers match each other. Hence, get the center channel from SG as well. Get a good subwoofer which will work well for music as well. (check out def tech, wharfedale, and sonodyne).
Add some satellites (like sonodyne genie) to complete your setup.

But remember the front three speakers are most important.

guys , im planning to get a z5300 locally for the 5.1/DVd setup & a dedicated Amp lik the Marantz PM7001 + Floorstanders for music from Sg. Good decision?

As i said b4 Music>movies is very imprtnt to me, im not too much of a bass freak, and need a tighter sound.

any other amp that i shud look at? also, which FS ?

^ That can be a good idea if the Z-5300 satisfies you for movies ;)

The PM7001 is great, no doubt, what's your max budget on the floorstanders ?

the z5300 costs abt 11k, will any Sonodyne/Teloma 5.1 package come in that price range?

hav a budget of abt 20-25k for the FS.

In Sg, i can get the JM Labs 700 series FS in that pricerange..

Do u hav any idea as to which other FS can i buy from there in that budget?

And there is that last option that im toying with, getting a SR4001 + 2Pairs of PSB Alpha B1 + Alpha C1 Center. all within 37k !!

P.S: Ur AV room looks awesome!! The gadgets, the ambience, the lighting!! HoT !!

^ Thanks :D

11k, nope you wont get anything. Stick to Z-5300 they are quite good. Use the optical input from the DVD.

For 20k go audi the Sonodyne Sonus 2605 I bought. Easily the best floorstanders I have heard below 30k

Want one jump higher ? KEF iQ5 at 32k :D

can anyone tell me how much does a entry-level Sonodyne/yamaha/sanen ACTIVE 5.1 package costs?

I could buy one of these for the HTS + get an Integr. Amp & some seriously good Bookshelves for music.

Int amp + good bookshelves = 40k

Decent 5.1 Package = 35k

Wont fit your budget mate!

Instead stick to

Int Amp + Floostanders = 45k

Z-5300 =11k
