Guy's are there any Custom cooled HD6970's available in India? I am talking about cards like MSI R6970 Lightning and the PowerColor PCS+ 6970 etc.

So far I could locate only the the Asus 6970 Direct CU II and its not practical for me for CF as it uses a triple slot cooler.

^^ Is there any particular need for the custom cooled 6970's in CF action. I feel you will be better off with 2 X 6950 2GB Reference ones and get them unlocked. Since anyway you are going for CF even if they dont overclock much( shaders will unlock anyway at 800Mhz 6950 speeds) the difference will be 2% of so max compared to 2 X 6970s. Also 6950s run at lower voltages and as such runs quite cool as long as you dont overvolt them above 1.2V :) and clock them above 900Mhz.

I don't intend to OC the GPU's at all. The custom coolers are to keep the GPU's cool without relying too much on running the fan at its limits. I didn't have had good experience with stock cooling on ATi cards in the past, not so much with the cooling prowess but with the fan reliability etc. One of my HD4850's is non functional because the blades on the fan started falling off in bits and pieces.

I've seen MSI's Lightning edition card here in Bangalore (not sure of AMD OR nVidia), ASUS Direct CU II cards ...HD 5850, GTX 550 Ti, GTX 560 Ti. But no Powercolor, the only Powercolor card I've seen is my (now) mothballed X 700.

Shop seen at ~ Golccha Computers, Bangalore, S.P. Road, hope this helped (a little).

^^

Must be older versions Sir but I've learnt you can get almost anything from Golccha. He is the only guy I've seen stock HIS IceQ edition cards apart from SMC International.

That MSI lightning Edition is of GTX 580 ! Anyways if its not available with SMC it wont be available with anybody else.

As of the reliability of the 6950/6970s I must say they are built like a tank at lest the reference ones (will have AMD marking near the PCI Ex Pins). And the fans even at 40-45% while gaming with CF you can expect the hotter card to be at 80 degrees or so. I will recommend 2 X Sapphire HD 6950 2GB Reference ones. Should cost around 31.5k~32k tax paid now :)

^^I have already talked to him. He does not have ready stocks for 6970's. If I have to go for the stock design, I would really prefer getting the card's from him.
