Forum Feedback Avatars in What's New search results

In the 'What's New' results page, I have recently started seeing avatars next to the threads. (with my avatar embedded in a smaller size in case I have posted in the thread). Is there anyway in the control panel to turn this off?
 
On a slightly related note.
Did we lose the ability to select sub-forums from where to fetch results during searches (eg: to exclude market posts)?

I believe it is still there right at the bottom right of the page just under the search bar -> Advanced Search

There is a link on top to fetch only tech posts which excludes all market posts.

No there is no option for this. Why would you want to do that?

The results page looks a bt too busy for my liking, but I guess I'll get used to it.

It might have been a nice feature if a lot of the people actually had avatars, but more than half the threads have no avatar for the thread starter.
