AVG AntiVirus offers maximum virus protection, product customization, and free virus database updates and technical support. The core of the testing engine is a Virtual Device Driver which loads into memory on Windows startup.

This version of AVG is completely free!

anti virus (free): AVG by Grisoft.

AVG Free for Windows installation (x32) files:

x32 free download EXE (bound to change with versions):

there's a pro version (x32) that you need to pay for. there's a x64 (pro only and not free) version too but unfortunately that's NOT free. :(

i just thought mentioning this since almost all rigs mention norton AV which was so pathetic (dont know since acquisition of symantec).

this free AVG automatically updates itself and runs a complete system scan during a scheduled hour every day (not something new). at the time i started using this (first used 6 months back on my laptop), it had a rating of 4/5. the best thing i like is that it's too light (noticed on my laptop and not on my desktop). it also has a email scanner plugins (at work only), which scans mails from email clients (outlook, thunderbird etc.).

I've been using AVG since 3 years.

Very light on the system, daily updates, not a single virus (touch wood!) :)

In all - AWESOME AV :D !

Well i m myself a big fan of AVG. Really light on resources. No issues with system comapatibility. However it does not catch all viruses. Usually i used to d/l a new antivirus every few months and use it for a day be4 switching back to AVG. And each time it gave few viruses unnoticed by AVG. But truly speaking, no other fully free virus product comes close to AVG on the whole. Though again its ME n my personal opinion.

yeah. i think some virus dodge avg. but AVG free was rated at 4/5. dont know if AVG pro would catch them. i have not used pro. i cant imagine if AVG pro would have a different virus definition file. but overall, it's very light.
