I was happily using AVG when someone on /r alerted me about their new policy. This happened only with the recent update which I didn't bother to read it. It wasn't there before. :| I've been using AVG for a few years now without any problem.
"AVG can sell your browsing and search history to advertisers" is the article title.
The updated policy explained that AVG was allowed to collect "non-personal data", which could then be sold to third parties.

Now my question is how much of it would affect the users? From ads? They did mentioned "non-personal" data so should i be worried?

After reading the whole article i noticed that it apparently affects only "Free" users. Well I'm a free user myself and will continue using it. I do not mind the non-personal, history data etc. being collected. Its not like I'm doing something illegal so why should i be worried. I get a good AV product in return. I'll just migrate to a better one when i have some spare cash.

Pirated Windows with Genuinely purchased internet security is a time tested combination, worldwide.
heh so true. Nearly everyone does it.
PS: My HP laptop came with "original" Win 7 OEM pre-installed and guess what? System detected it as "not genuine" :P
I still have the screenshot saved. I'll upload it when i find it.

" There is always strings attached to free software like AVG ". Google and Facebook started this secretly at the beginning and then announced this information to the users due to requirements of law . Now antivirus companines are following the same policy. I would recommend if you dont like what they are doing install another antivirus programme of your choice

i actually dont mind now. Its not as bad as the media make it out to be (do they even bother reading all the policies from other AV companies or other free software makers for that matter? I doubt it). Its not like i'm doing something which is against the law. Want to sell my browsing history and other "non-personal" info in return for a good product? Sure!
