Avg Not Installing

Hi,

wen i try installing Avg, dat is wen de progress bar coms to aroun 5% I get dis error, tellin i cannot install it coz

Local machine: installation failed
Installation:
Error: Action failed for registry key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\AVG.Kernel: creating registry key....
Access is denied. (5)
What can i do abt dis?
 
Do you have any third party softwares which prevent adding new entries into the registry? Like say some software which makes the registry read only?
 
well previous Avg, trial version, 30 days, its over, so i got de trial version dat can b used for a long time, more like upgrading,

Ok in that case try this

1.Run the AVG Free install file

2.Choose the Uninstall option and follow the setup wizard, when you get to the part to remove user settings, select it.

3.Restart your computer

if not try this

Run REGEDT32 and navigate to the following key... (substitute the key you mentioned for the following one)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\AVG7Uninstall
Right click on the key name in the left window, select Permissions from the options. Give your username and the Administrators full permissions and apply, when it asks if you want to apply the same permissions for subkeys.. say yes.

.... now delete the key and reboot and try reinstalling

the thing is, i had already uninstalled n as u mentioned removed de user settings, i had done previously, wen i installed newly, not upgrading, i got de error msg
 
i know that, the error message appears if you have not uninstalled the whole thing properly(some reg entry are left), and when you reinstall it refuses as it cannot overwrite the older reg entries as access is denied :(

read my ^^ post again, try the first method else try this :

ok, goto the particular reg entry which is giving the error, take backup, right click change - security setting and give full access to the current user and then delete it and reboot. see if it installs then.
 
I saw the regedit, i saw many keys relating to Avg, but every key i click on says

"Cannot Open "the key" : Error While Opening Key".

This is what I get, wen i right click, n select permissions, i get a thing tellin I dont hv permission to view permission settings, but i can make permission changes, so im not able to do ne thing with it, not even delete it...!!! :huh:
 
Kin, just goto HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\AVG.Kernel right click the folder or entry/ select permissions / select your user name/ tick mark full control and apply. then you can delete it.

If not try reinstalling the previous avg(trial version) and then, Choose the Uninstall option and follow the setup wizard, when you get to the part to remove user settings, select it.
 
I chgnd the permission, selected de username, full control ticked, den wen deleting it, not able 2 delete, says de same thing

n i tried installing de previous version, de same pblm again
 
^^ ooh, in that case see if any avg service is running in background, if yes then you need to stop them first.

or try the same thing permission thing thru' safe mode.
 
dis is pissing me off...!!! derz no Avg or Avg related prgrm runnin in bgrnd, i went to safe mode,same pblm,i tried everythin u said, finally im plannin 2 format windows drive, or

temme anothr good antivirus prgrm!
 
Same thing but give all users and the admin full control.

about alternate a/v, i use nod32, others would be kaspersky, f-secure etc. give a search their many threads on it.

One more option would be to go to avg's own forum.
