I have some 720p Mp4 movie files but my old philips DVD player wont play these files. Now i have to convert these files to avi files to play on this player. I have tried format factory but if i try to convert it in avi, file size become huge. Guys can somebody suggest any good converter which convert these files to good 700mb avi files without loosing video quality. The format factory convert it in widescreen format which i dont like. Please suggest.

Which philips dvd player? Can u give its model no. Most old dvd player lacks support for the newer codecs likdmd divx. They may not even play a video files burnt in data-dvd mode.

Try StaxRip, it will serve your purpose: StaxRip

I will try this application.

Find an avi file which plays smoothly on the dvd player, next check its codec information using media info. Now you have the details of the codec which is supported by your dvd player, next convert your videos using that codec in any of your favorite video converter

OP,
This is quite strange as I have bought a philips DVD player six yrs back which can play mp4 files but not AVI and IIRC the mp4 support came first and then avi, I think in 2006.
BTW you can try Ojosoft Total video converter or anyMP4 media converter.

There will definitely be some loss in video quality during conversion, you can't avoid it.

You can try AviDemux or VirtualDub/VirtualDubMod for conversion. They are pretty powerful tools and you can edit the videos in any possible manner once you get a hang of how to work with them.
