How do i play AVI files on Iphone 4 without converting them ? Is it Possible ?

Tried VLC player but it says to add to library but cannot find where to find it

Dont see the VLC in Itunes.(This is for a friend i haven't tried on my own)

In iTunes
1. select your iPhone on the left hand list.
2. Click the "apps" tab in the iPhone property sheet on right hand.
3. Below the list of apps there should be a small box listing "apps" which can have their own data store. VLS is listed there.
4. Select VLC from the list, and then drag video files to the box right next to VLC.

^^Try through an iTunes US account. You can make one and choose payment as 'none'. Consequently you can't buy paid apps but free ones unavailable on the Indian app store such as Amazon etc. are now downloadble ;)

edit: oops nevermind, I misunderstood the question!

VLC says to use the File sharing option but where is this option ?

VLC works for .avi files but it doesn't support hardware acceleration and consequently the battery runs out pretty fast. A typical 1.5 movie consumes about 30% of the battery life on the iPhone 4.

I think its better to use an app like AirVideo to play media files over the air.

And its best to convert the files and use the native iPod app which uses considerably less battery life as compared to the above methods.

iTunes->Select your iPhone->Apps tab->Make sure VLC is installed->Scroll down and you'll see a file sharing dialog box->Select the VLC app and add the desired media file through drag and drop or using file explorer.

Can someone share a screenshot , i could have done it myself but need to pass on to someone.
