Backup/Clone Hackintosh partition to a file.

Party Monger

Level I
After possibly a whole month finally managed to get a flawless Lion install (no wifi) on the laptop, triple booting with Mac Lion, Windows 7 and Windows 8. Latter two installed yesterday.

Somehow, Windows 8 install had effed up the OSX boot.(Chameleon was the main bootloader. For install ahd put the boot flag on respective partition so their bootloaders get installed on their own partition)

But managed to install chameleon back on osx after booting into it with the Iatkos l2 install dvd. Now I wan to back this partition up for future use as it can conk of again.

I tried Clonezilla as it was supposed to be great with HFS filesystem but it gets stuck in selecting the place to save the clone file. Will try with a pendrive instead of a dvd again, but im not sure if it will work.

Any other good options? I dont want a bit by bit copy. The partition is 20gb and and used space is 15ish. Now I want around 15gb file. Please suggest some tool to do that?

I have always been using HDClone.Professional from SL days . confirmed working from SL to ML , means personally tested from SL to ML . Was using it extensively as every new kext/somehting would break the installation so would backup partition using this then play around

Thanks a lot man seems pretty decent. Could you give an overview of the setting and options you chose and the version you used. there seemed to be quite a lot of those :P

I Have 4.0.4 Pro version from ahem sites . Use the exe and not iso . I generally use Classic view . Select Partition to Partition , Select a source partition and click it then next .Again select target partition , click it and also tick multi speed .
In Final Options page do not select any settings . Let it be on default . Use can do hit and trial with the Smartcopy on or off . When you finish copying it asks something about correcting headers do not correct them .
These seem to work fine SL to ML

Awesome Thanks. Also do you do it all from windows only? I acquired the professional version will try it soon. Also what is the size of the backup? 1:1? Like 20gb part=20gb file or 20gb part filled 14gb=14gb file.

yes i do it from windows version . You can use the bootable iso also but windows version never gave an issue . Both options are there i think but i use 30GB=30GB option as i used to keep restoring from it . It was never a space saving permanent backup .
