I just bought a APC 1100VA Back UPS and the first piece did not switch on. I replaced it with a new UPS and this one is making so much of noise. Called tech support and they said such noise is not normal and they will send a service engineer.

The dealer asked me to buy a V-guard UPS but I insisted on APC... just to get into problems huh! :(

Today APC sent me a brand new UPS and my god - this UPS is also making an abnormal noise - which is a result of full fan speed. I started doubting whether this sound is normal and called APC again and the guy on the other end says this sound is abnormal and he will send a service engineer again :(

What the hell!

I should have bought Numeric UPS. :(

On the other side my experience for APC has been EXCELLENT. They have completely replaced my 500 VA UPS which was under warranty for even small issues like fuse short circuit two times. That too within 2 days of complaint. Also the original battery in it lasted much longer.

My new UPS is also from APC (old one died after 6 yrs. of use and they no longer make that model anymore so no repair possible). That too is going perfect for last 1.5 yrs.

Some people on other forums have said that their quality is getting degraded over past few years. That my be the case with you :(

Don't worry... ask for Replacement again & again till you didn't get satisfy that it actually working the way it should. APC is good brand & quality.

PS: Is there any relation with current Cold Wave in few part of India (if yo are from Cold wave hit part)?

I've been using the APC Back-up UPS RS 1100 for a few months now, without any sort of problem. (TW)

This is my second APC UPS, old one was a 500VA unit that lasted me a few years.

#BikeAdvice Have you tried the UPS with a different PC. Could it be a compatibility problem between PSU and UPS ?

I think i was the first one here to have a horrid exp. with APC 1000VA model .....mine was replaced like 11 times(maybe more).....then one fine morning it literally blew-up in ma face....i even purchased a digital stabilizer just to protect the APC (what an irony ).....then against all the advise of not to go for microtek 800VA i purchased one and using it for more than 8 months without any problem whatsoever.....it was shocking to see microtek performing great in a place where the APC was giving up every few weeks .

May be their higher end models are good but i would never ever buy a back up series again from APC

.

@OP APC service people will only be keen of replacing the faulty piece no matter how many times you call and register.....they will never identify/rectify the root of the problem....so your choice are really limited when it comes to APC....just use it till the warranty and after it gives up throw it way and go for some other brand.

Even I have a problem with APC. I have been using their 600 VA basic model and it randomly shuts down sometimes while making a high pitched noise. This is while the electricity is still on. It has been very irritating and I will never buy an APC again (atleast one of their cheaper models).

I think i am a part of the lucky few to have APC without any problem. I have the Smart UPS range and it never gave any problem. I recently purchased the APC home UPS as well and it works fine.

Times have changed and technology has been improving. All the PSU's that are being manufactured are focused on efficiency. Any UPS without a pure sinewave will have problems with the recently manufactured PSU's.

But could you mention whether the abnormal sound comes in back up mode or it exists even when connected to mains? Please post your complete system spec so as to analyse your problem

Guys VX450 was released in 2007. I dont agree if you say its a recent model. Infact My Coolermaster 750 Real power pro did not work with any of the non sinewave UPS. I tried 3 different UPS, namely Microtek 1KVA, APC BR series and Numeric. Nothing worked. I am talking about which happened in 2007.

There could be incompatibility with certain PSU and UPS.

@Sam000.. atlast shifted from APC to microtek i guess???

Guys i am not adovcating for APC, i have just put in my thoughts.

@Bikeadvice sorry for hijacking your thread. Its better you try changing your UPS to Microtek or something else to get rid of the problem as others have done
