Bad Quality Skype Calls

I and my family both use skype voice calls to communicate. Recently the quality of calls have worsened. When we talk most of the times there are breaks in even single sentences. This thing makes the communication garbled.
This was not the case some time back.

Earlier i had a MTNL 2 Mbps connection at home but due to the recent upgrade it got down to 512 kbps. Is this the cause of bad voice quality ?
Connection at my end is 2 Mbps.

Also the video is very choppy and the fps is very very low. This too was fine earlier.

Also it has been ensured that there are no bandwidth eating apps like torrent or downloads on at that time.
 
512kbps connection is decent enough for skype video calls.Try latest version of Skype..might help..
 
dude same happened with me...sometime ago...i use to talk to my friend in US ,
just try to reinstall skype at both the ends.....everything will be fine,and if not that means may be a virus problem at the house end(india)
 
Try avoiding a video chat and check it out. On my 256kbps line I can easily talk but video causes everything to slow down.
 
i've experienced the same with Skype. A friend of mine and me were talking on Skype and there was a huge lag. It kinda made the conversation meaning less.

{i was on my H500 and he used some Sify 512 connection}

I did this. Lately tried without video calls. But still the problem persisted. :(
 
Skype works flawlessly on my BSNL 256kpbs. See if any of the apps are downloading something in the background(OS/App Updates).
 
Most probably theres a virus which is eating up your bandwith wither at your end or home.
 
^^ My end it is almost impossible as this is my company lappy with latest AV signatures and running full time. Yes it can be at home end. Nevertheless i will tell my bro to do a thorough virus scan of the machine.
 
^^ I will tell my bro to reinstall at his end. At my end i cannot install it so i have a installed copy (as in previously installed..copied to USB...unistalled from my PC) and i use that.
