Bad torrent speeds on Airtel BB

Hi..

I am using Airtel 999 plan. For the past few days, my torrent speeds have dropped considerably. I am using uTorrent. Even with hundreds of seeds and thousands of peers, my speeds arn't reaching anywhere near the maximum. Infact, there is a great variation in the speeds, sometimes it touches 20kBps for a moment and then comes down immediately to sub zero speeds. I have never experienced this before.

I am using 256kbps connection speed setting in uTorrent. I have tried other options also, manually limiting upload to 2kbps, manually setting global and torrent connections to higher number, but nothing works..
Any advice?

hm.. bitcomet was very bad for me.. nev crossed 4-5.. 256kbps n while in 512 @ nite.. speed duz not cross 6-7..

so i chngd 2 utorrent.. its workin lyk a charm.. im gettin aroun 25-33 in the day time

i meant Port Forward ... Open Up ur Torrents Ports so that u get Better Incoming Connection & connect to more Peers .. hence better download Speeds

check portforward.com

theres a guide in here.....that tells how to port forward on an airtel modem....u can do that or enable bridging (all ports get forwarded to ur PC)

if u do forward the port....mention that port in utorrent config...also increase the no. of seeds and peers that the torrent can connect to...try keeping it at around 300-350

+ tamper around with the ul/dl limits.......(preferably keep both to 0) but check which setting is best

Sometimes one of them settings will work perfectly while one will not

In Utorrent, you get a green tick at the footer (near DHT nodes) when your port is getting forwarded properly...otherwise there'll be "!" mark there. You don't need to do port forwarding manually unless you are using some anti virus...in fact, you can use just windows xp sp2's firewall and put utorrent in the exceptions settings....

To increase speed, limit your upload rate to 80% of current upload speeds...but i guess that's already done....

Out here on MTNL, i'm maxing out my connec with 220kB/s on torrents (around 5-6 torrents in parallel max it out)

putting utorrent in windows xp firewall exception list is not gonna port forward it automatically

i agree that port forwarding is normally not required to achieve max speeds....but hey we r troubleshooting here....so y dont we...err....troubleshoot...

waiting for dceite to reply

or if your router supports, enable uPnP. universal plug and play. it will automatically forward the port or enable DMZ(demilitarized zone).

Yes, i am getting the "!" mark. The message is "no incoming connections". When i check the port if it is forwarded, it takes me to µTorrent Port Checker and says that the port 62164 is not being forwarded. A link in that page takes me to PortForward.com - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall

which shows a list of modems. Now the problem is which one to select for the Beetel ADSL2+ modem and how to open that port?

EDIT: I am trying to open http://192.168.1.1/main.html .. it asks for username and password. What should be it?

UPDATE: Went through the tutorial, and enabled the port. Now i am getting the green tick saying that connection is ok and port is forwarded. BUT, i am still not getting speeds inspite of having connected to many seeds and peers. This screenshot says it all:

^^ This is OT but look at ur share ratio man :o - u should share also. I always share till the ratio reaches around 1.2

and abt your speeds, it could be that dht is not enabled??

sorry - dht not enabled will show up in status bar like DHT: Disabled. (ur screenshot says otherwise)

hmmmm....a few things....first set ur upload limit to unlimited....doesnt effect the down speed....atleast not on airtel....

other thing....try downloading something with a whole lot more seeds + peers...say around 300 + 500

increase the no. of seeds and peers utorrent conncets to....and then wait for 20 or so minutes after starting a torrent to see if the speeds dont go to the max

also do a speed check on http://speed.touchtelindia.net/meter.php and report it here

We dont have to forward our ports...if using GPRS....DO WE ??...

coz i am using GPRS...and yeah Incoming connection arent proper...Utorrent shows (!)

sorry no idea abt GPRS...i guess a GPRS connection wld be a direct one from ur PC to the mobile....do u have to dial anything to connect via GPRS???

reduce you uload speeds to 1-2kb/s ... ^^^6pack - share ratio is purely based on moral grounds...esp in public torrents
