Graphic Cards Balancing PCIe and RAM

In terms of performace which would be a better deal on an Asus A8NE mobo + AMD64 3000+ (Venice Core) combo having 512 Mb DDR333 RAM

1. 7600GT + 512Mb DDR333 (approx 10.5K + RAM already present with me so no charge)
2. 7600GS + 1 Gb (512*2) DDR400 (approx 7.5K + 4K for RAM - selling off 512 for ard 1K and getting 2 512 of DDR400 @ 2400 each)

Basically the price of both these combos would come very close (approx 1K of diff as quoted by the vendor) so its only the performance which would cause the tilt towards any one

The main question is, which combo's performance would be better for gaming. These cards have 256Mb RAM if I am not mistaken

definitely the one with 1 gb as no matter what gfx card you have new games like fear, oblivion will stutter like hell on 512mb Ram.

7600GS is for 6.5k and 7600GT is for 12k, does 512mb additional ram cost you 5.5k???

I would suggest get atleast 1gb ram and spent the rest on the graphic card, you have cpu, mobo etc, right?

Where can you get 7600 GS for 6.5 K

Also, I have not mentioned anywhere that 512 costs me 5.5 K. It costs me 2400 per strip.

I would be buying the CPU and Mobo

Braindeadboy first look at his budget before suggesting. If he can afford a 6800GS, he'll obviously be able to afford a 7600GT :p.

get a second hand 6800GT/GS with 1gb ram. Or get 7600GT with 512MB DDR 400 ram and upgrade ram later, or get 7600GS with 1gb ram.

Yes. Budget is one of my primary concerns !

1 A8NE + AMD64 3000+ = 9.8K

2. 7600GS = 7.5 (leadtek price quoted by rashi)

3 512 DDR400 = 2.4 K

19.7K is too costly !! :(

Kalpesh, the second option does look very balanced indeed, I would also suggest you to go with second option. 1GB RAM is must now.

You can always overclock your Video card. Sure, it applies to 7600GT as well, but then again, 7600GS is for less.

Actually the diff is around 3-4 K for which I can get my extra RAM and some more. The only question would be, Is 7600GS enough to play most of the games (of course not something like Oblivion, but at least others like NFS, Q4, UT2007, FEAR, etc) at a decent enough resolution. Its ok if its not the best resolution, but it should be decent.

Heck, I used to have an onboard 128Mb nForce2 chip. So anything which betters it by a considerable amount would be good for me !

Id would go with the 1 GB RAM for sure. Coz if u dont have enough RAM there isnt any use going with a better graphics card. However the prices you are being quoted are high. The 7600 GS should be 6.5k or 7k absolute max. Someon bought a BIG one for 6200 recently. And RAM should be 2k max for 512 MB Twinmos. I would say get the 1 GB RAM as first priority.

7600GS is priced at 8600 for XFX. I am assuming that XFX would definitely be better than BIG in terms of performance and stability

:) Which city you are from? I am asking cos even for xfx the price you are quoting is a bit on the higher side. And barring asus the other graphics cards prices for the different vendors are almost identical:)

Can you let me know the distributors in Mumbai who will give me the stuff at that price ?

Emails or phone numbers may help.

Also, This price is for a PCIe card and not AGP (is that why he quoted me more?)
