Bandwidth bottleneck

Hello guys, I'm using BSNL home combo 500c (2 mbps) plan from a year ago. But in downloading using u torrent even with multi torrents it never ever crosses 200 KBps while there is no uploading nor any other use of suppose to be remaining 56 KBps available.

But if I use this remaining bandwidth for upload say in U torrent for that matter it gives full remaining 56 KBps or sometimes even lil bit more then that. I never changed any default value in U torrent which are 0 (means unlimited) for both down/upload.

And if I download direct from any server using Orbit then I'm able to achieve up to 240 KBps.

So how can I utilize remaining bandwidth for downloading in U torrent.

u will not be able to get anything more than that cause when it comes to torrents uploading is very necessary and if you stop uploading than u'll be able to observe considerable drop in your download speed. now here there is a chance of getting full 240kbps when you are downloading from a torrent which has seeds>leechers eg. 500seeds and 300leechs but you will never get 240kbps when leechers>seeders and 200kbps for that is a good speed you are getting and its not bottlenecking.

Rightly said by dragon.

One more thing, the connection that you have is 2 Mbps (256 kBps), so that 56 kBps is not remaining speed. You upload and download slots are different and if this is same as MTNL then my guess is that the theoretical max download you can get is 256 KBPS and 32 KBPS max upload simultaneously.

Sorry to bump this up. I'm having the same problem. I've noticed that during 2am to 8am the speed of downloads on well seeded private trackers and even http downloads do not cross more than 160-170 KBps. Uploads are surprisingly at around 60KBps continuous, even though in utorrent i have it restricted at 45Kbps :S

At rest of times I can download at more than 200Kbps, sometimes hitting 230-340KBps :S Is BSNL throttling the speeds at this free usage hours?

Another thing I noticed is that in Windows 7, rasdial connection can be connected but cannot get disconnected through task manager :S

Well 6pack I am guessing you got the same plan.

BSNL plan is Home 500 C which states on their website 256Kbps/ Up to 2 Mbps. This is the surfing speed. Divide 2000kb by 8 and you get 250kbps which is you actual download speed.

If their plan states upto 2mbps, the actual download speed is bound to fluctuate.

I have a 2mbps MTNL NU which is also an upto :@ so I restrict my upload speed to 10 to 11 kbps. I dont use private trackers. Everything is available in the public ones.

I tried it too but same problem here. Well I just found a utility now. See if it works for ya. I havent tested it nor do I need it. My dad shuts my pc now after I got a beautiful bill. :D

Download RasDial 1.1 - A small utility to dial and hangup your ISP at a certain time - Softpedia

I dont think in India at least, our ISP's throttles traffic.

If you want to test if your ISP is manipulating BitTorrent traffic. Try the link.

Glasnost: Test if your ISP is manipulating BitTorrent traffic

Well hope things work out. Cheers

^ i didn't say BSNL manipulates torrent traffic. I just said they might be limiting download speeds in those hours specifically. Even at this time I can download at >200KBps right now. During those hours it falls down below 170Kbps :(

Thanks for that app link :) Will try it.

^ Maybe since everyone's downloading during the free time, total available bandwidth alloted by BSNL might be getting exhausted.
