I will be in Bangalore from the 17th of October to the 22nd of October. This is my first trip to Bangalore and I will be free by 5 pm. Please help me out with the following things:-
[1] What are places to visit(historical stuff will do)?
[2] I would love to sample some good authentic local cuisine - please mention some places
[3] What are the things to do in Bangalore?
[4] I've heard clothes are cheap in and around factories making branded stuff - can anyone mention the location of these places? I would like to pick up some nice formal shirts.
[5] How bad is commuting in Bangalore?

Welcome to bengaluru.. i mean when you come:)
1. Historical places are like vidhan soudha and in its vicinity like cubbon park and also lal bagh, IIS, mysore summer palace, town hall and so forth. More than historical i believe you should check out the modern places.. That list will be more forthcoming in bangalore..

2. Now food is abundantly found in bangalore.. If you want authenticity you should try the original MTR in front of lalbagh.. others include maiyyas in 4th block jayanagar, Dosa camp in 4th block again(voted best dosa in bangalore), south indian thindis in 5th block jayanagar(awesome breakfast)..
3. Now thats a good one...:) well stroll down MG road and brigade road and you will see why bangalore is preffered;) Then there are malls everywhere.. if you are interested can name a few.. then the night life.. well i'll let the more 'used to that' people tell you more on it.. few places of mention are UB city and leela palace.. In bangalore im sort of a novice there.. Lastly our dear SP road -- the grand central of the TE geeks:)

4. Clothes especially branded ones are quite cheap here.. you can go to a place called marathalli close to your electronic city.. Right out of the factory and upto 60 percent off on some.. bloody worth it i tell you.

5. actually commuting is very easy.. you have ac volvo buses going almost everywhere.. if you get confused just hop on into a bus that goes to the main bus stand called majestic and take a bus from there to where you want. a full day volvo unlimited pass costs some 180 rs.. you can climb on any bus to wherever you want.. autos will try to cheat you so keep the google maps in handy and see the route before you proceed.. communication is not a problem as they know many languages here.

Hope this helps dude:) happy shopping

Just few correction.

1. Commuting in b'lore is not easy esp after 5pm.

2. Volvo unlimited pass is just 90.

3.Marathalli is not nearby e-city man. Its 20km from e-city.

Rest of the explanation is fcuking fine. :)

Even i am new to b'lore , just 3 months old.

@sunny27, you can visit Nandi Hill( abt 60km from b'lore ) on a cloudy morning. Its an awesome place to visit.

1.Not necessarily on the first point.. its dam easy up until 11.30PM.. no problem at all.. As i said earlier if you get confused just come back to majestic and proceed on..

3. sorry dude confused it with marenahalli... but yeah marathalli is located near leela palace.. been there only once but my friend goes there whenever he comes to bangalore

Marathalli is not near Leela palace but considering the size of BLR you can say that. But I would say it is close to HAL.

You can check out:

Lootmart

Brand factory

Many individual factory outlets

You can check out the Forum Value mall a little ahead of marathalli which was purpose built for factory outlets. I prefer it for its better range of clothes.

I live around this area and since I shop regularly I noticed a few things:

1. Most important point. Many of the clothes are damaged and hence check each and every one thouroughly. Do not wait till getiing home to do the same. I have had to ditch many designs I liked for the same reason.

2. You will have to be prepared to buy in bulk as most of the offers come for 2 or three pairs

3. You will be restricted with limited choice. Hence you have to be patient and search a lot.

He he ... going back to majestic every time he gets lost :P that would be fun.

I guess sunny has a smart phone to find the route and people in b'lore are very helpful :)

I've been in Bangalore for 3 days now.Today is day 3 in Bangalore. My travel log and experiences of Bangalore:-

[1] Lovely weather -- (+1)

[2] Horrible traffic -- (-100)

[3] Terribly expensive commuting by auto rickshaws -- (-1000)

[4] Visited - some temple near vidhan souva with nice carvings and colourful gopurams on it, Walked around MG road, Brigade road, Lavelle Road, Vidhan Souva and a few other places including race course road, Chinnasawamy stadium and went for an early morning jog in some park near Richmond Street and an evening stroll in Cubbon park (the centre for cootchie cooing in Bangalore)

[5] Sampled out some old Bangalore in and around Shivaji Nagar - nice kebabs

[6] Checked out UB city - horrible expensive place full of unwanted, un buyable classy sh!t

[7] Went to the Biere CLub, Peecos, and hard rock cafe(went to the ones in mumbai and pune as well loads of times), finished off with dinner at Mainland china(no alcohol is served in the mainland china in ahmedabad - thanks to mr.mk gandhi)

[8] Will checkout the metro tomorrow

Do you guys recommend any other places apart from the ones above?

How about you take a bus from Jayadeva flyover to ITPL at 6PM and you will remember Bangalore for ever :P.

Anyways , Try out the Bannerghata national park also . Whole day trip but a good / decent place . Wonderla (water park) is another good day trip !

Traffic is horrible actually coz of that flyover construction from jalhali cross till malleshwaram... Waste of time if travelling by Bus.

I have 4 days in Bangalore now. Anything else that can be done?

Btw I was told Levis has its denim factory here in Bangalore where you can buy dirt cheap pair of jeans from the factory itself. Can anyone tell me where I need to go for this?

I also plan to visit Mysore. How do I go about it? I would like to be back in a day.

Would extremely overcrowded today. You didn't come yesterday, how about having a mini TE meet up at the biere club or peecos?
