Bank transfer, how do I check?

A person was supposed to transfer certain amount from SBI to SBI, the 2 accounts are in different state. Any idea, how much time it will reach in my account?
Also, is there anything I can ask the person like some receipt number or something by which it can be assured or checked that the amount has actually been transferred and is in the progress, and not just the person is lying?
The person is saying, its an offline transfer that is from the bank, NOT net banking and it can take 48 hours to reflect.
 
Well, if it offline transfer, i.e. money deposited in bank branch l, money should reflect by the end of the day at most..
 
Well, Offline transfer may take almost a day. You can do one thing, ask the guy to show you receipt that he must have got after transferring amount to your account. :-)
 
It just takes a "click". Thing is most SBI branches follow the policy of "executing" deposits after 4pm, i.e. when deposit time is over, that's why it takes time to reflect amount. Otherwise, just a "click".
