I'm looking for a laptop to use in college. Primary uses are internet browsing, songs and movie watching. I don't plan on running heavy apps on it. Hdd not a problem as I'll get an external 1TB in a couple of months. I also have a Transcend 2gb 667 in case the memory of the lappy is ddr2 and I need to add it to the memory. But I need the best configuration in that price range. But pls don't suggest netbooks as I hear the atom proccy can get quite slow.
Also I don't mind if anyone can source a used laptop because i've got limited funds....

for you, id suggest, get a Refurbished Dell inspiron (Previously opened new) ..Now, this refurb laptop would be an unused laptop but it MIGHT have minor scratches.. To source it, you need someone in dell who can get you the same..

If u go for a used refurb inspiron with i3, you should get it for 22-26k depending on the condition\config..A new refurb would cost you around 28k again depending on the config..

if you still plan to buy a new one, i would suggest you to look at inspiron 15..Dell inspirons are VFM and the ASS is AWESOME...

Also, look at msi x340. I personally really like the laptop..It looks really awesome and is VFM. Should be around 19-20k..

Toshiba c650-m5010 rs.21750

Asus A52N EX084D around rs.24500

Asus A52N EX128D around Rs25500

You can check out the Samsung R508 too.
It retails for around Rs.23k.

Specification: Intel Pentium T4500/2GB RAM/320GB HDD/Intel 4500MHD/Linux

I recommend the MSI Cr400x with C2d T6600+256mb Nvidia 8200M G(capable of playing old games and full HD easily)+14 inch lcd +320gb hdd+ DVD writer + 6 cell battery with 3 hours battery backup with prices starting from 21k-25k(celeron and intel dualcore models available as well)

thanks for the valuable input guys...unfortunately now my warden informs me that first years aren't allowed to bring a lappy to hostel....:-(
Damn!!!
Anyway i'll keep in mind the 20k laptops in case my dad decides to buy one for home use.
