Hello friends

I need help in buying/building a new PC for my uncle. His budget and requirements are as follows:

  • Budget: Rs 22,000/-

  • Existing hardware setup: None

  • Components from the existing setup that you intend to keep: None

  • Components that you have in mind for your new PC: AMD processor (multi core), Cooler Master SMPS, Gigabyte Mobo

  • Plans to upgrade in the future: Nothing decided yet

  • Places from where you will buy components along with your location: Kolkata
  • Intended use of the PC : General use

  • Brand preferences: AMD, No ASUS mobo please (the after sales service is very bad here)
  • Monitor resolution and size: Any standard 19" WS (16:9 AR) preferably a non-TN panel

  • Will you be overclocking your setup?: NO!

  • Which OS will you use?: Win XP, Win 7 or Ubuntu
  • Requires an FDD

Thanks in advance

Cpu-Intel i3 2100-6.2k

Mobo-Intel DH61WW-3.3k

Ram-corsair xms3 2x2gb 1333 mhz-1.4k or Gskill ripjaws x 2X2gb 1333mhz-1.4k

psu-Fsp sagaii 400w-1.9k or Corsair cx430 v2-2.2k

Hdd-160gb segate 7200 rpm-2-3k

Monitor-Dell IN2030M-5.8k

Case-zebronic bijli-1.2k or any circle cabinet-0.9k

M/keyboard-Logitech kit-0.6k

Intel i3 would be a good choice for office or 24X7 running rig it will consume less power, there is no point in getting amd rig ifyou are not going to overclock and not gonna using multi-threaded apps.

Still if you want an amd rig then-

Cpu-AMD Phenom II X2 555be-4.8k or phenom II X4 955BE-5.8K

Mobo-GIGABYTE GA-MA78LMT-S2-2.6k

Rest same as above.

Thanks for the reply...

How about this config?

Processor: AMD Athlon II X2 260 Regor 3.2Ghz

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-M68MT-S2

RAM: Corsair 2GB DDR3 1333

SMPS: Cooler Master eXtreme Power Plus 460W

HDD: Western Digital Caviar Blue 320GB or Seagate 320GB

If all your uncle is going to do is word processing and productivity tasks, my suggestion would be

AMD Athlon II X2 250/255/260 + compatible board based on 740G/760G/MCP68 platform ~ 5.5K

OR

Intel PDC 620 + cheapest H61 board ~ 6.5K

Both are dualcores and can do all office work easily.

Rest of config is same for both

2x2GB XMS3 ~ 1750.

Circle cabinet with a standard 400W SMPS ~ 1.5K

HDD ~ Cheapest you can get, just make sure its not Green drive. Go for 160/320GB.

Monitor-Dell IN2030M-5.8k

K/B and mouse ~ 700 bucks.

USB floppy drive ~ 850 bucks (Enter USB Floppy Drive 1.44Mb (External) Gadgets.in|Online Shop India)

Dont go for Coolermaster SMPS. It will be a waste of money IMO. Also ensure the HDD is a 7200rpm one. You should be able to get a 500GB for 3.5K, someone from kolkata had posted it here on TE.

Yes you can go with that rig-
Cpu-AMD Athlon II X2 260 Regor 3.2Ghz
Mobo-GIGABYTE GA-MA78LMT-S2-2.6k
Ram-corsair 2X2gb 1333mhz-1.3k
psu-Fsp sagaii 350w-1.5k
Hdd-320gb segate 7200 rpm-4k
Monitor-Dell IN2030M-5.8k
Case-zebronic bijli-1.2k or any circle cabinet-0.9k
M/keyboard-Logitech kit-0.6k
It would be better if you go with this mobo, you will get better IGP.

Thanks guys...

As I mentioned, this is for my uncle and he has a daughter. So chances are high that she will be using his PC to play some basic games, and later may decide to upgrade and add a graphics card....so I thought it would be better to have a good SMPS as IMHO that's one source of trouble which generally remains hidden.. :)

@thegatekeeper

How is the mobo you have suggested better than the one I mentioned? Just curiosity.... :)

Thanks for the suggestion...though I am not sure whether Corsair will be available here in Kolkata or not...I shall surely check...

amd x2 260 + asus / gigabyte M68 or M74 based board - 5.5k

corsair vengeance 4gb 1.6k

lg dvd rw 900

normal atx cabinet w/ smps 1k - 1.5k

kb mouse ~700

dell / acer 18.5" LED ~ 5.5k

HDD 500GB ~ 5k

Total ~ 21k

When did corsair create vx430?:S,you have slept too long today:p,it's corsair cx430v2

If that is the case, then go for a Corsair VX430. But I feel CM is not that good.
