The mechanics of animation are simple. You have to change the images in a sequence so that it appears to the eye as moving. Of course you know that but you also have to ensure that the transition from one image in the sequence to another is not abrupt.
Check these out as well as they are supplementary to each other.

Open the file you want to add animation to. I have used a 200X20 blank file and filled it with black.
Now draw a square and fill it with green color….
Now move the square using the nudge tool so that each time it is equidistant from its last position. The best way to nudge the layer is to hold the shift key and hit the arrow button.
(If you don’t have Photoshop then you can draw the square at equal distances using your estimation)
Save the file as gif or jpg at each step so that you have the following images.
Now use any gif animator software and load the above images in the same sequence as above and generate the animation.
This is what you shall have at the end of it all.
This is another example of the above technique to generate the same animation in a different way.
Now if you already have adobe imageready then you don’t have to draw the square each time or save the image at each step and then compile it.
Just draw the square and open the image in imageready.
Now click the ‘duplicates current frame’ button five times in the ‘animation’ palette to have a total of six frames as shown in the image.
Select one frame at a time in the animation palette and nudge the layer containing the box so that the box in the selected frame is at a constant distance from the box in the last frame.
That’s it. Now hit the play button and adore your handiwork. If you are satisfied then select the “save optimized as†button to save the image.
