Hi. My friend wants to buy Batman Arkham Asylum. But, before that he wants to confirm whether it runs on his sapphire hd 4850 512 as it requires physx. Does it run smooth at 1680x1050 at high? His proccy is c2d e7500 stock. 2Gb ddr2 ram.

PhyX is not a requirement. It will just add to the game if available.

Batman AA runs on high at 1024x768 for me on my 4670 so it should fly for him :)

However 2GB ram could be a bottleneck. Im at 4 GB with x64 on a AMD X2 3000+

I played AA on HD4770+Athlon X2 7750+1440x900reso. It was very smooth. Of course, PhysX is off by default and I never bothered to turn it on as it can bring the game frame rate to standstill.

It is a worthy game to buy and lacking PhysX won't do any harm.

i dont know about 1680x1050 but i have played batman aa on my palit 4850 512mb ddr3 at 1440X900 at full specs without any problem smoothly and physx is not necessary.

Apart from a few visual effects that people hardly notice during game play, there is no meaningful application of physx in this game. The game will run fine on a 4850. Also its an UT3 Engine game, so you should easily be able to do 1680 x 1050 or even 1920 x 1200 on a 4850.

Thanks.

My friend will be buying it tonight then.

One question from my side, What effects can PhysX bring to a game(e.g Batman AA)?

Well if you search the tube for Batman AA physX comparison you will get everything you need. I personally like the whole feel of the game when PhysX is on. You wont know what you are missing until you know whats it capable of !

Check you the video !!

PhysX is more like how the environment reacts to your movements. Like paper on floor moving when you run past them, flags on flagposts behaving exactly how they have to when you dodge a bullet though them or shake them. There is a lot that is added but the problem is that there is a huge drop in fps and hence if I am correct, you need atleast GTX260 to have smooth game playback with PhysX on.
