Hello folks,

Today morning while travelling to my college and as usual I was surfing from my Galaxy Ace. This poor fellow has terrible battery life anyways. What I have noticed is my screen was ON for constantly around 1 hour 40 minutes and out of which ~60 minutes would be surfing on Voda 2G + Whatsapp. Remaining time was just playing with m-indicator + Memo.

Now my doubt is, is it true for all Touch Screen phones that battery degrades rapidly when screen is ON or its just for Android phones ? like just for example my Galaxy Ace - an Android Phone and Nokia Asha 3xx or Lumia 710 a Non-Android phone.

Also to what extent display type like LCD, LCD-IPS, AMOLED affect battery life ?

This might be a silly doubt but pardan my lack of knowledge. :)

Touchscreen phone's battery will always discharge rather quickly when the screen is on, regardless of OS.

However, depending on OS (or ROM) and your usage, there can be many other factors for battery drain in addition to screen on time.

I think now even AMOLED isn't a guarantee for better battery life. Like for Samsung, instead of turning the pixels off for black they color it to dark grey to avoid clipping and banding issues

Used a Lumia 800 for a few days its battery is better than my Sony P but my phone already has bad battery life :P

As far as battery life goes the Samsung Note is a very very good performer even with the larger screen.

Screen brightness and screen time definitely play a role in battery drainage. But we also need to consider what processes are going on in the background during and the amount of processing power being used for the same.

Also the network/data usage plays a role. when on 3g, even in idle mode my gnex will drain almost 20% power in 5 hours. Put the same on 2g and the battery drain is 4%.

Battery drain is common problem in android phones. To avoid this problem, people usually use few apps or buy heavy duty battery or change the phone ;)
Like project butter was introduced by google to remove UI lag, now there will be project runner to enhance battery life of all android phones in next 4.2 Key Lime Pie.
