Hijacking this thread as have similar requirement for a friend.

I would have suggested dongle mentioned above but since his budget for 3G dongle is around 1200, I would like to seek advice on one meeting the requirements. He have short-listed D-Link DWP 156 from his side.

Got the card today, its awesome :(

The only problem is that while using Idea 3g, the maximum speed coming is 250kbps download :( :(, while my phonton+ dongle gives me 2mbps speed :(

or it is so, that i had made the 3g recharge now, it will take 2-3 days in order to start getting proper 3g speed, the dongle is showing 4-bar signal WCDMA

Avoid D-Link! It's terrible!

Sorry for bumping old thread but i have the same query.
Is this card still the most recommended or there are new updated versions? I need one. And does it create wifi hotspot with just powersupply? And does it support USSD msges and normal telecom voice calls?

Tks.

It depends upon the type of Network you would like to use or you would be roaming around[GSM/CDMA] and service(s) available on that/those area(s). Most of the Net connecting dongles irrespective of Network provider are made by Huawei and ZTE later (Re)Branded with software tweak for Example, 1. Airtel provides Huawei E1731/E5270/8231S, 2.Vodafone K3770,HG553 or EC153 , 3. Aircel E1750 C E303S 4.Reliance EC173 and ZTEMF190 etc. GSM and CDMA Network providers lock those devices to their network/Notwork. Tata photon/BSNL both come with CDMA3g Donle locked with nv/NonRUIM[Removable User Identification Module] though they both have a slot for RUIM ZTEAC8700 in Reliance and BSNL programed the device to be used with their network without a RUIM card and TataPhoton programes and locked the Huwawei CE1260 and other CDMA dongles to be used only though they also have a slot for RUIM Card with a Dumy(false) Plastic which can be removed and unlocked to be used with any CDMA network.I've used Sungli SXC10801XCDMAdongle provided by Tata Inicom as Photon wiz with BSNL CDMA RUIM and used Tata Indicom RUIM on ZTE,AC8700 EVDO(speed 600kbps to 3.1mbps)dongle provided by BSNL after unlocking and removing the False card from the RUIM Slot. Huawei EC1260 CDMA3G dongle provided byTata Indicom as Photon Plus also can be used on any other CDMAnetwork by removing the Dumy RUIM and unlocking as "RUIM if available" using CDMAWorkshop. From my personal experience with unlocking Dongles and using on various network, I would recommend you to go for the following devices irrespective of Network provider(s) viz, Huawei E17313G dongle(maximum speed of 7.2mbps) or ZTE MF6673G/4G/LTE dongle(upto 21.6mbps) and Huawei E355dongle which can be used both as GSM and wifi dongle. Please choose the device spec wise from any service provider to get maximum benefit out of it . any dongle locked with a particular network [GSM or CDMA] can be unlocked to be used on other a similar network but. As we cannot put Diesel on a Petrol vehicle, the same way, we cannot use a GSM SIM on a CDMA dongle or a RUIM Card on a CDMA device . Though there there are some Mobile Phones like Motorola Droid Milestone A853/854 etc. which can accept both CDMA[RUIMCard] and GSM[SimCard] on the same slot, I have never come across any 4/4G dongle which can accept both the SIM or RUIM Card on the same slot. Good Luck!
