Hello,

I m from Dombivli, Mumbai. Going to get iPad 3G model in couple of days.
But still confuse about 3G operator selection. MTNL has plan of 600MB at Rs.76 for 15 days. But I m not sure about who provides 3G here MTNL or BSNL. Its been always a dispute here.

I m intending to limit my usage to Mails, ET and general surfing via 3G on the move. Which plan would be suitable for me and from which operator.

Thanks in advance.

Buddy,

I stay in thakurli. Their is no MTNL connection in our Area. The best bet is BSNL. Go to the nearest BSNL office and ask for a demo of the 3g connection. Also check out other operators like Vodafone, airtel.

Thanks a lot buddy. Any idea what will happen to my BSNL connection if I try to use it in Mumbai ? I mean how I will charged

As per the plan. Using MTNL 3G data on BSNL and vice versa does not incur any additional charges in roaming.

If this is valid then I will take a good plan either of them. :)

Any idea how much data is required for my usage type (Mails, casual Surfing and Reading Economic Times via its app on Apple store) ?

I suggest you start with the 1GB plan which usually costs around 250 Rs and i think it should suffice your needs. If later you feel you need more data get a different more volume plan later.
I personally use a 1GB plan and my use is similar like yours (but i am on iPhone) where i use for casual surfing, no downloading, tapatalk, sometimes tethering, occasionally using for Viber calls and Facetime.

Bumping my old thread,

I m using iPhone 4 with Vodafone 3G. Vodafone used to be good earlier but from last few months I m facing issues in data network of them specifically when I m on the move like in BEST bus, Mumbai local trains, etc.

In local trains, most times I do not have data network available though it shows 3G/E sign in status bar of phone. I want to know which provider from remaining providers i.e. Failtel, Reliance and MTNL have better connectivity specially while one is on the move as mentioned above. I do have a BSNL SIM card but it is normal SIM where as in order to use it with my iPhone and test it out I need to either get it cut or ask for new.

Experience/s are most welcome, specifically as mentioned above requirements. :)

PS: I m on iOS 7.1.1, if that helps.

Local which line central/western/harbour...
i can tell u the H/E availability span of mtnl n/w in detail for central line dadar to kalyan :P

@v.Na5h buddy waiting for your inputs :)

Also other who have views/experiences kindly chip in. My irritation or frustration increases day by day with Vodafone as while I m in train I virtually have no data network for 90% of the time.

Sorry for the late reply..

kurla to vikhroli -H
bhandup to thane - H and occasionally switching to E..no stable connection
obviously no n/w in the tunnel..dunno much about slow tracks here
tunnel to diva - Edge mostly ..dunno much as i stop using internet and connect only after crossing diva
somewhere where between diva to kopar(my guess the temple where people get excited and shout ..i still dont get why they do that :p) --- to kalyan -- pure uninterrupted H with data speeds 240KBps+

This sounds much much better than my current state. If I m on 3G cellphone looses complete network now-and-then. Also it reregisters on network zillion times. If I m on 2G, just forget that I m going to get data connection unless train stops at a station, that too not valid for each station.

Could this be issue with my phone ?

Me to travel on same way. I find reliance far more stable and been using then since 6 months on iPhone 5.

Compared to ?

Today I noticed that trains were not crowded like daily on account of holiday, I was able to get data network better than daily though not best experience.
