PC Peripherals Best AIO printer / scanner / fax around 15K?

I am looking for an All-In-One printer / scanner / fax / photocopier around 15K. The features that are essential to me are:

  • Wireless access to Printer AND scanner
  • Auto-Duplex
  • Ink should be able to be refilled at places like Cartridge World etc.

So far on the web I have only found the HP J6400 and the Canon Pixma mx868. Unfortunately, the Canon mx868 while is $170-200 in the U.S. (Rs. 8,500 - 10,000) it's being quoted at Rs. 24,000 here!! :S Usually electronics have a 30-40% markup I know, but 180% is a bit steep!!!

Anyone have any positive or negative experience with the HP J6400? And any other recommendations? :help:

p.s. Also, I don't have a problem with the printer being black and white, so Laser can definitely be an option.
 
dont compare printer prices in us an india.. in us they would sell it for free if they had to cause they make up on cartdgs whereas in india apparently hp does not adapt the same strategy except in entrance level printers..
 
Well HP doesn't have the same issue as Canon. For example, he HP J6400 / J6488 AIO

In US: $160 (Rs. 7,900)

In India: Rs. 14,000

Markup: 77%

which is still bad, but not 180% !!!

Anyway, any recommendations?

HP was in profit just coz of its printer division...............
 
I recently ordered a HP 1522N laser MFD with ethernet for 18k something (should be less for you as I almost always pay a premium due to my location). It's a pain searching for MFDs with network support at a decent price. I wasted more than a month looking for a decent ink based one but even the HP site is not updated. The models suggested by the HP search have been discontinued ages back! In the end I settled for a laser one since the price difference was just 3~4k and will be getting a Photosmart later on for my colour prints. I did find a HP with wi-fi for 15k (forgotten the model) in NP last time I went there, but since I have a ethernet port free in my home network, I opted for the laser cos of the lower running costs and heavier duty cycle.

I suggest you forget the web for available models and do some footwork or call up the dealers directly for models available, then compare features.

Edit: This is the one I'm getting. No wi-fi though.

^^The specs look quite good. About the refilling part, if the cartridges are used in multiple models, I don't see any reason why the refill guys won't come up with a solution soon enough. Is your ink consumption quite high? I print a lot of text as I prefer to work out of my home (my clients always complain they hardly see me in my office :P) so finally opted for the laser. I mostly use geniune replacements so laser works out cheaper for me. Lack of proper refilling establishments in my area, you see.

I doubt if you'll get many suggestions for a wi-fi device as networked printers are usually needed for an office environment where ethernet works out cheaper.

I suggest you go for one of the models you've shortlisted. I haven't seen any printer that prints really bad and the ones with the perfect colour reproductions anyway hit the stratosphere in prices. I'm of course limited by my exposure to HP devices as Canon etc. don't have that good a network here for inks, service etc. Unless you work in graphics, any printer should be good enough, price and features being the only factors. I presume service etc. should be more or less equal to all brands in the mainland.
 
Yeah, I am just waiting on HP to confirm that the 8500 has auto-duplex scanning to seal the deal. The price I think is about 20K, so that pushes my budget up...... but colour touch-screen!! :hap2:

Generally it has very good reviews, but the only thing that's bad is the print times... but upgrading from a 8 year old HP 630c I would imagine things can only go better!!

And what's killer about it is that you can use the touch-screen controls to scan something straight to any PC on the wireless network, a network folder or even any one of up to 10 storeable e-mail addresses!!
 
Booooooo... the refillers have not figured out how to refill the HP 940 cartridges that the 8500 AIO uses. :(

Do confirm on how it works if/ once you get it. Mine also has this feature but pretty pointless for me cos I can configure it to scan to only my PCs or mapped drives on the machines. Can't map drive/ shares from the unit itself. Would've been useful for me if I could've used my Thecus NAS (the only 24/7 rig in the network)as the destination...

Ditto for the email. I have to use a e-mail client on my PCs (any one).

Like you might've guessed, I've got my printer :)! Prints are fast and crisp. Everything's ok but I wish there had been a dedicated tray for envelopes etc. Well, for the the price, I can't complain.

Now to look for a good photosmart printer ;)!
 
No amount of refilling can compare with the cost of laser.

New Cartridge = Rs 800
No. of Pages =160
Cost of four refill = 600

Total Cost = 1400
Total No of pages = 800
So cost per page = 1.75 for inkjet

Cost of laser 26A = 3050
No pf pages = 2400
Cost per page without refill = 1.27 for laser.

And toner doesnt dry!

So if you print B & W pages go for laser. Excellent for photocopies as well. Slightly higher price.

I am using a Model HP 3055. Excellent value for money. One of my best buys.
 
I don't print that much to be frank... and I really need a scanner and a fax machine, which it why an AIO seems best.

And since I don't print as much, I think it would be better to use the money to buy a printer that can print in colour as well, just for the off chance that something needs to be printed in colour.
 
Goddamn hp !@#$!@ :@ They have complicated things so much!! On one hand their video says there is duplex scanning and some reviews say there is duplex scanning, but then some representative of theirs e-mailed back saying there isn't suplex scanning. And some reviews say there isn't duplex scanning.

Added to that, there are either two or three different models that all have the same model number!!! There is a non-wireless 8500 without touchscreen and there is a wireless 8500 with touchscreen. Then even within the 8500 wireless model there seem to be different variants. Did these guys run out of sense? Why couldn't they call it the 8500 and 8600 printers?? :@
