Hey guys please help me out here, I need a new BB connection (WIRED) with unlimited plan

1) give me the best name of the ISP's
2) Unlimited plan name/site link (plan upto Rs.550)
3) How much speed will I actually get when downloading (mention the speed on plan with the actual torrent speed)
4) Location - Behala, Kolkata-700034
5) I have shortlisted Reliance, Tikona, Siti BB, Sify BB (No PMPL & Alliance here).

Planning to use it with a wireless router, so do these connection u suggest will come only with a modem or can I buy one of my choice from flipkart etc.

Also suggest me some good Wireless Router under 1.5k with DD-WRT and good wireless connection (coverage like 3-4 rooms)

I'm from tollygunge and I'm also looking for some Good, Reliable, UL Broadband plans.

Right now I'm using BSNL for around 5 Years. Speed is good, and also Reliable, but when it goes down it's down for a month. No one cares to come and fix it up.

I have checked out Airtel Broadband. Review is good, reliable and all. But I need min 512 Kbps which is only on 8 Mbps plans. But they have only launched 1 Mbps and 2 Mbps plans in Kolkata which would get down to 256 Kbps after FUP. Ofcourse I can get higher FUP plans like 80GB, but paying for that much doesn't seems VFM for me.

I have also checked out Alliance Broadband, I have already used that before moving to BSNL. At that time they were just sh*t. I took 512 Kbps plan and used to get 10 kBps Download Speed. :(

But nowadays people says, Cable Broadbands have improved. Speed is good, price is reasonable and ofcourse the Peer thing is best for Torrent Downloads.

In the mean time, I have also contacted Tata Communications, which only provides connection to Corporates and price is very high. (512 Kbps plan costs around 2k per month).

I have also took information about Tata Tele Services, which is for Home Users, and now merged with Tata Communication (As they said). But later when I enquired, I came to know that, this Tata Tele Services is also known as Tata Photon Broadband and Tata Docomo Broadband. And then I started thinking about the Reliability when I heard Tata Docomo Broadband.

Finally, left with Reliance, I never enquired more because of the name.

And I won't suggest Tikona, as a friend in my locality had opt for that, few years ago, but it's just Sh*t. They provides Wireless Connection and everything depends on Signal reception which will not be good, considering this Flat Culture with no distance is between them.

I had also enquired about Sify, but they don't provide connection at my area. But my previous office used to have Sify connection, so from that experience I won't recommend it, it used to be down most of the time and speed was too slow. Though I don't know what plan they used to have.

Used Reliance, Tata Indicom, Ortel, Cable Broadband and Airtel. But I'm in Salt Lake and South Kolkata has a different scene of ISPs.

TW, Airtel has been the best. Absolutely no downtime. 2-3 since 2011. Messages of downtimes sent by customer care, always 100% bandwidth, best pings, customer care is decent and their ETAs are very good.

The trade off as you have already mentioned are low end FUP plans they just do not work out.

I share an 8 MbPS connection with my roommate and we have 6-7 devices online all the time. 150GB FUP limit. 2500/- and though its not cheap it's still okay because most of the work related and entertainment related dependency is on a working trouble free Internet connection.

Before that I was on a 2 Mbps 75 GB plan but I was downloading huge games on PS3 and would regularly hit the FUP. Tata Indicom, Reliance just never had advertised speeds and insanely bad infra.

I won't recommend any cable net because they are just unreliable instead invest in a good plan from Airtel even though they are leeches.

I have mixed experience with Sify. As per the connection and downtime goes it was perfect. But it was too slow, but please note that, we used to run SAP and other ERP's, CRM's etc. and I have no idea what plan they used to have. So if it's 1Mbps plan and running 30 PC's, peoples downloading torrent, running ERP & CRM Packages, considering it slow is never justified.

As I said, BSNL is good too, but once it goes down, customers are harassed. They won't come to fix it, until they feel it. Also half of the time in month they are on strike called by Unions, and you are out of luck then :(

Regarding cable I'd say, peoples have mixed reactions. Cable connection depends totally on the locality and the cable operator. So reviews for cable connection doesn't fits as like BSNL, Airtel, Sify or Reliance.

@quixand You are on 8Mbps connection? How? They said they don't have the technologies for providing 8Mbps connections. It's not implemented in Kolkata. I guess they were wrong then.

You do, but it's damn slow.
that's my point, crap speeds[DOUBLEPOST=1369750753][/DOUBLEPOST]reliance wimax is truly unlimited, period. I used it in Kolkata for 2 yrs, now shifted to BLR and got myself a new connection here as well - suits me fine, 400gb plus downloads, 150gb plus uploads month on month

@quixand So they told you the same thing that they don't have option to provide 8Mbps connection but later they provided you? You said you are using 8Mbps connection. Also, you took the 8Mbps plan from the beginning or changed it later? On which area do you stay? I'm from Tollygunge.

Yes my plan was 2Mbps 75GB then wanted to upgrade to 2Mbps and larger FUP plan that was available only in 8 Mbps 150GB so took it gets shared between 2 people anyhow. I'm in Salt Lake.

Sorry for bringing this thread to life again.

I'm using Airtel 8mbps here in salt lake / Kolkata, the service is good but very expensive. I'm looking to shift to Reliance freedom plans. But somehow it is a challenge to get hold of the Reliance sales guy to get a connection. It would be great if anyone in my area has reliance or can share the sales contact with me. (@quixand)

If you are a working fellow then get hold of the agents from office. Corporate connections generally tend to have some discounts.
Else Tweet at them or go through the Reliance website maybe?
