Can anyone tell me what the ISPs pesky " Divide by 8 " unspoken rule is. Damn they talk so sweet while giving out the connection, failing to inform this "/8"
Also I had seen a board regarding stating something "Quality (or assurance ) of service" of various BB plans in one of the BSNL offices where, all the commercial plans were having 90% , home plans above 1000 and the night plans having 80% while others having like 60%

DO you mean Contention ratio?

Reliance people just not ready to pull a line to my house.. i've been trying forever.. bsnl sucks.. big time.. their routing is horrible.. and i get an snr margin of 5.3 to 6.2 on my line.. i'm just too worried to play online from my bsnl connection.. wish i had a solution.. :'( I stay on Prabhat Road..

I'm using NUL 2mbps Tata Indicom plan ... costs 1000Rs / month ... FUP is 125GB , and day download limit (8am to 8pm) for whole month is 1.5GB :p
That is weird.. I have the 2mbps TATA Indicom plan which is time based. NUL is activated, and I download >200 GB per month. And I pay 1750/- for 3 months :bleh:
TATA ppl trying with all their might to get me off this plan, but me doesn't budge... :D

Michael... Dont include yourself in this thread.. you're one lucky ass.. and the TATA plans right now are shit expensive..

+1 last time I called TATA Indicom CC they did confirm that we do not give personal connections. Where as my friend who stays in Pune was able to obtain a personal connection last month with a plan that isn't listed on the website :S
Yes...i am the one who got TATA broadband in Jan. plan i have is not yet listed on their website. its got no FUP :) and its 768kbps plan for 999/-
download speed is 85-90 and i am very happy with it. i had option of going for same plan with BSNL but their bloody attitude of phone line and what not....with TATA no phone line and installation done in just 1 day and line is ON..... yes it was down last week for 2-3 hours.... otherwise i am happy.

Quick Power 360. Thing is you cannot get this plan now. The plan is discontinued and you get it only if you were on that plan :|

Hands down Reliance. Never thought I'd say that!

I've used Tata, then Tikona and finally Reliance, and the last one is most definitely the best.

Tata is way too expensive, and there was always a problem with their switch/router after a power outage. In the 1+ year I was a subscriber, I can't tell you how many times they had to replace the entire damn thing. Power failure=port failure. Damn annoying.

When I shifted to my new place, I took Tikona. Big mistake. When it worked, it was amazing; blazing fast speeds! Unfortunately, server issues + frequent DNS losses + frustrating CC ensured that it didn't work far more often than it did. Needless to say, I dumped it.

Been on Reliance since Nov, haven't looked back. 749/- pm for .6/1 mbps day/night without FUP. Not a single problem so far.

Hope this helps,

Maestro

Do you mean the Mega byte and bit conversion ?

Data rate is always defined in Mbps not to be confused with MBps
Mbps is Mega bit / s and MBps is MB/s

So a 1 Mbps connection can give you max 1000 kilo bits a second
8 bits = 1 byte
So 1 Mbps = 1000 kilo bits / s or kbps = 1000 / 8 KB/s = 125 KB/s ( Speed shown in our systems while we download )
