Best Budget MFD under 10k/15K
I am in search for good Monochrome Laser MFD . I have a budget of 10k but i can stretch it to 15k if i can premium features
Being a fan of Canon Lasers i started my search with Canon MFD's
1. Canon MF3010 - Prosesign ; Cons:No Premium Features .Everything else seems bare minimum
2. Canon D520 - old model with Duplex
Laser MFDs have 4 main features : 1. Duplex 2. ADF 3. Network 4. Fax . I will be ignoring fax in the comparison
3. Canon MF 4820d - Duplex (New Lineup) Cons: No ADF - Rs16300
4. Canon MF 4720w - Network ; Cons: No ADF,Duplex - Rs17000
5. Canon MF 4750 - ADF ; Cons: No Duplex
Canon has pretty weird lineup 3 models with 3 basic different features and each one of it missing something
6. Canon MF 4550d (old lineup ) Pros: Duplex,ADF,Fax,Network - Cons: Has all the features i need but its costly at Rs19900
After reading a bit on Laser Monochrome i figured out ADF and Duplex are important features. I could use Google Cloud Print for missing network feature

1. Brother 7065 DN Pros: ADF,Duplex,Network Cons: Service,Refilling,Spares,Repairibilty -Rs 11500
This is one high rated models on amazon . After reading in detail about everything about Brother 7065DN i decided to skip this for the following reasons : -
a. Brothers service
b. Drum alone cost Rs5500 (MRP) , average market price - Rs3600 . Brother printers have separate toner and drum . It should be costing less than Canon,HP and Samsung spares
but it costs more
c. average scan quality .
d. drum life of 6K-8k Pages lower than other printer.
e. i also read toner refill requires reseting gears on the catridge . On a little more research i found out that there is no place to put the gears on
the NEW starter catridge you need to purchase a new catridge to reset gears - Rs 2200+.
d. you wont get the cost advantage of separate toner +drum model . Ships with starter toner which prints about 600pages max.
This is a feature filled printer , a Canon with the same features cost Rs19800 (Canon MF 4550D -old gen) and Rs35,000 (Canon MF4890dw) . Canon 4890dw is $189 on amazon - Rs10584
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Samsung also good lineup of laser MFDs . I am little bit hesitant on samsung because its a company that does not specialize in printer .
Samsung products sucks in things that they dont specialize in . they take years to perfect the product and they will just keep on selling faulty products to the market
I will start with ADF models
1. Samsung - SCX4321NS - Pros:ADF,Network,Full catridge of 3000pages,Price ; Cons: No duplex - Rs12500
When you compare this to brother model this one has duplex missing but it comes with 3000pages starter catridge . Brother can do 500pages on starter
2. Samsung - SCX4521NS - Pros: same as 4321 but with Fax,Full catridge of 3000pages ; Cons: No Duplex - Rs14700
This seemed like a decent MFD to me but one user on samsung india has mentioned frequent paper jams . A little more google suggested that many other users have complained
about paper jams on Google . Samsung has videos and guides to teach about clearing paper jams .
I am now afraid that even SCX 4321 might have the same problems
I found this model later
3. Samsung - SCX4701ND - Pros: Duplex,ADF,Network Cons: Starter catridge of 1000pages - Rs14500
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After thorough reading i am i still confused , there are 3 printers that comes to my mind
1. Brother 7065DN - this was the first printer i decided to buy . but after reading about maintenance cost and refill problems i decided to skip this model.
2. Samsung - SCX4521 / 4701ND - i almost made my mind to buy this but after reading about paper jams i decided to skip this model
3. Canon MF 4750 - a canon would keep me away from problems but a Rs7000 cost rise over base model of MF3010 for ADF isnt justified .
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SOUL Searching
1. Canon 4550d seemed to be the perfect model but is overpriced at Rs19800
2. I need to print not more than 100copies a month
3. After reading 100s of review on the net i figured these are the important features that i would be using in MFD
a. Refilling . All the printers mentioned on the page can be refilled , brother 7065dn seems to have the most problem
b. Cheap spare parts of Canon MF as it uses the same catridge 328 for all models . If you have any print problem you can replace with the complete aftermarket
Prodot catridge which costs around Rs1000
c. Duplex - i could live on manual duplex by printing odd and even pages when i print in bulk .
I have taken a hold on my printer purchase as i am now looking for another important feature - " Scanning a bunch of documents in ADF to a single PDF file "
AFAIK ,
Canon Inkejet software has this feature
I am now checking on Brother and Samsung Laser MFD software for this feature . This is the most important feature that i would be looking for .
