hi all,

My parents planning to buy the new Skoda Laura Petrol (1.8 TSI) base model for rs.13L.. The diesel variant is available for 13.3L (1.8TDI)... not much of a difference.

But my cousins told me that their skoda laura's are having A.C. problem: It stops working somehow..
Cousin: My AC went faulty two times when the car was under warranty and 1 time after warranty got over. Evrytime they replaced the A.C. unit. This time it cost me 1Lac as it wasn't covered by warranty.
Friend: My AC went faulty once under warranty and once recently when their was no warranty.. I cudnt afford to spend 1.3Lac on it and hence im running the car with windows down as Ac doesn't work and the company doesnt know how to repair it instead.
Another friend: Similar issues

My Brother's excuse: The AC was a fault in Old Laura and may have been sorted out in new Laura..

My verdict: After reading detailed analysis about Skoda Laura vs. Honda Civic vs. VW Jetta vs. Toyota Corrola Altis in Autocar's June 2009 issue, i understood that Laura 1.8 TSI is a better car than its rivals.. Specially in performance terms (160BHP! i.e. 122BHP per tonne) as compared to Civic, Altis (107BHP per tonne) and Jetta (75 BHP per tonne).. Also beats its rivals in other fields... Some people say its a class apart. (almost enters Upper D segment)

This has created utmost confusion for us.....

Requirement:
1. Daily city driving of around avg. 40km
2. Outstation journey (600km total) once a month.
3. Self Driven usually, hence decent performance required. (Should be better than our current car atleast - honda City 2003 model - 95Bhp - arnd 90Bhp/tonne
4. Highway safety is also a factor
5. Maintenance cost should be low
6. Car's engine should be in good shape till 6 years atleast
7. Budget: 9Lac - 15Lac (Any car better than honda City 2003 shall be welcomed) (Lower the better)

PS: im not selling off my city, its petrol engine has worked like a charm and still is :) (currently needs some highly delayed service though)

please help... any advice is highly welcomed :) TIA

Honda Civic Hybrid

About time we start embracing technology also it's evenly priced and FE is good too

Skoda - Expensive Service

or id say go classy and get an Altis

do u need a petrol or diesel?

it seems u r going to buy a sedan.

corolla altis may solve it 4 u else civic/hibrid.
