PC Peripherals Best DivX Player around :) Suggestions pls!

Hi all! :bleh:

I'm new here ..

I'm living in India and I need some suggestions to buy a good DVD Player

I'm actually pretty greedy coz' I want all the known file formats to be recognized by my DVD player! :p

It should be able to read DVD, VCD, ACD, MP3, WMA, KVCD, SVCD, DVD-R, DVD-RW and also DivX, XviD!

I've actually found out that Philips, Samsung, LG, Videocon, Mitashi and MEPL sell their DVD players with DivX capability here in India..

I also found out the model nos.

Philips

DVP 5106K

DVP 642K

Samsung

DVD-P650K Rs 4,790

DVD-P350H Rs 3,990

Videocon

Videocon DVD77S4 (Didn't know this existed!)

LG

LG DS-9533 Rs. 3500 (This one seems to be new too! Last heard plays all!)

Mitashi

Mitashi DivX 999

Mitashi DivX 555

MEPL

My problem is that I've heard some problems from an user using Philips 5106K that it didn't play divx as mentioned and DVD -RWs!! He had probs. with movies written on DVD-R discs .This has been published in Deccan Chronicle, Chennai Edition! (I've the proof.. I'll take a pic of it and upload if you guys really want to see it!)

I need more info on this product please..

Is it multi - region as well?

and what other Divx players would you guyz suggest?

Factors required:

* 100% DivX/Xvid support

* 100% DVD-R media support

* Availabilty in all regions in India (Actually in Chennai would do for me, but me being self less...)

OR

Is a DVD player with DivX capability required at all? coz' 4 aVi's can be crammed into a single - layer DVD? Know what I'm talkin'???:S

--------------------------------

and one more question -- Pioneer doesn't have a DVD player with Divx as of now, but when I asked in the shop , the guy told me that some pioneer DVD players did play divx CDs as well even without being specified !!

Is this true at all?

OR

When will the Pioneer DivX/XviD Players hit the market here at all?

It plays all DVDs u throw at it. DVD - + R DVD -+RW all work. I tested on my friends player. Plays all divx files nicely, no problems at all. It will also play the worst scratched dvd u have. I think it has region lock but i am sure u can bypass it ;)

I have 5106K, it does play anything i have thrown at it. DVD+R/-R/RW anything. Plays all xvids/divx i have.No issues what so ever. It does have the region lock but i have no idea how to bypass it.

If anyone does then it would be helpful.

Get the Pioneer 383; works well with DVD-Rs and i have not encountered a problem with any of the XVIDs i've thrown at it. got mine for 3600 at alfa (irla, mumbai)

personally i prefer using the xbox and xbmc. get a wireless bridge and you can watch movies on any TV in the house without even needing to burn a DVD. i think you should be able to get your hands on a 2nd hand xbox for 5-6k or so.

Hey Chaos amazing site yaar , bookmarked it.

BTW can some one tell me is this Pioneer DV-383 better than Philips 5106K.
Also is it Region Free.

bought the phillips dvp642 long back. played everything so far & all format of dvds. the region lock was unlocked by the shop salesman. there is a code that has to be put & then u can play all region dvds.

Dang worked perfectly. Played Region 1 DVD of cellular and Region 3 DVD or Star Wars perfectly.

My uncle has Pioneer DV-383S. Its a good player but it didnt came with any warranty as such. he bought it from alpha as well. Its bulkier than Philips 5106K. The only problem with the pioneer is that it jumps xvids some times even if its unpacked xvid.
Philips on the other hand might be little more expensive but comes with warranty from philips India, its slick and i like its slot loading mechanism.

Any more info on this?? Whats an unpacked XviD anyway?

Whats the selling price for this Pioneer?

Any region locks On this pioneer? Heard there is one!

The avi file can be packed bitstream or unpacked.
The DVD players have problems playing packed ones. ALmost all of them give stuttering effects. Making them unpacked is easy 2 minute job using mpegmodifier program. This does not increase the file size or anything.

But the pioneer player stutters while playing firefight scenes in star wars xvids that i have made. The philips 5106k that i have does not stutter or jump what so ever. this happens only with xvids on Pioneer. I encoded same film with divx and it played perfectly fine. But more than half of my collection is xvids.

wouldnt it be better to get a tv tuner card and connect comp to tv instead?

Not all of us have comp near the TV. my room is like 25-30 feet away from the hall where TV is. And then you have to carry all clutter including the audio out to the tv, too much messing of wires. If you have HTPC then its different story.

my modded ps2+realitymediaplayer+ar max evo does all that :p but you'll have to boot a special cd first to load your vcd/divx files and which can be a hassle.

@funky monkey
So basically, U r telling me to go for the Philips DVP5106K instead of the pioneer?
Depends. If you are ready to pay 1K extra then get philips. Overall i like it better. i made it region free yesterday. The local support for philips is better. The built quality looks are good. plays anything i throw at it.
So yeah i would suggest 5106K over Pioneer. A little biased view maybe but i had used pioneer before i bought philips. I took demo at anupam first and then i bought this one.

OK.. Got some info from the dealers here in Chennai (I din't venture out to Ritchie street, Just to my nearby electronix shop)...

Philips 5106K - Rs.4700/-

LG DS-9533 - Rs. 3200/-

Now the question is If I am to select one from the above.. Which one??

I'd probably like to go with the LG and get myself a 2.1 setup also in the budget coz' I din't hear any complaints from users and AFAIK it plays everything you throw at it!

and Just if you are asking - all are billed!
