PC Peripherals Best DivX Player around :) Suggestions pls!

umm Guyz I need some advice..

I'll hafta decide between (I've actually narrowed down to these 3!)

LG DSI 9533

LG DSI 8577

Videocon DVD77S4

The factors are (for me):

*should play all DivX/Xvid movies

*should play all media VCD, ACD, SVCD, MP3, WMA , DivX, XviD, DVD-R, DVD-RW etc..

*subtitle support

*no region locks!

Hope you guyz can help me decide..

Time's running out. I'll have to buy in 2 days!

my modded ps2+realitymediaplayer+ar max evo does all that :p but you'll have to boot a special cd first to load your vcd/divx files and which can be a hassle.

the ps2 cant handle the latest hi-res xvids and divxs. i've got a ps2 with a network adapter and ps2reality sucks.

xbmc is much superior owing to xbox's pc architecture.

have got the Hauppauge MediaMVP but it's not recommended for divx/xvid as it encodes the divx files realtime to mpeg2

pioneer 383 has served me well but my fave method for watching movies is using my wifi laptop in bed...at least till someone figures out how to stream videos to the psp (i'm sure it will happen in time - they've got music streaming working, sony's got their location-free platform now supporting the psp...just a matter of time)

^^ ps2 can handle hi-res xvides an divx. they had a problem with the old ps2reality player,...get the new ps2reality mediaplayer PRO. it is an upgraded version which handles hi-res movies smoothly.

as far as dvd players are concerned, my phillips dvp642 (old ver) is the best divx player i've seen. throw anything at it and it plays. i also upgrade its firmware which allows me to select subtitle files, .srt and .sub

this player really rocks when it comes to divx, FYI, the new phillips dvp 5106k is very case sensitive when it comes to subtile files, it refuses to play sub files if they are not exatly named as the video file.

cool, making a boot cd as i type this - thought the ps2 scene was well and truly dead, but hey it's nice to be shocked every once in a while...just hope that my dusty old ps2 works :)

this is how lg internation told me about that player.

so if you think its good go for it

i would support philips 5106 (i am using philips dvp 642k for more than one year and i made my friend buy 5106 on diwali and we are happy)

uhhh medpal thanks dude...

OK .. lets talk philips then...

5106K -- Supports subtitles??? and all XviDs also?

and I'm assuming 642k to have all sub support and Xvid support.

Then, what's the difference between 642k & 5106K??

5106K is based on the Mediatek chipset FE. And the 642K is based on ESS Vibratto. The ESS vibratto chips can play any subtitles with a movie , even those without the same name as the Avi file. For the Mediatek chipsets(5106K) you gotta have the same name..

But then Mediatek chipsets have far far better Xvis compatibility. THey support QPEL and GMC encoded xvids also to an extent.

Compatibilitywise 5106K is a much better player.

The best deal is 5500s . too bad Philips phased out that player from India.

Awrite.. Got the LG DS 9533 and it rockz! and that too for just Rs.3,350/-, with 1 year warranty as well . Played everything I throwed at it.. However, the manual says it supports only DivX3.x,DivX4.x & DivX5.x, XviD .. So I beleive it doesn't support the DivX6.x format! :( Anyways I haven't tested that out.. Maybe It will play once I try..
Regarding packed/unpacked bitstream, I've not had any problems uptil now.. :bleh:
Regarding the Chipset - I do not know what it has - Not specified in the manual :( . And I do not wish to open it :p
Subtitle support is there for all the known Subtitle formats.
However I have one question , I can burn the Divx with subtitle.. but there won't be an option to turn it on/off during the playback?? Yet to try it out..
Thanx for ya support TE guyz!!:cool2:

I have been using the Pioneer 383 model (grey market) and it plays all the formats with ease (divx and xvid) along with subtiles. It has got optical and coaxial audio output which is necessary if you have a decoder for 5.1 output.
