Graphic Cards best graphic card for ~15k (5850 or 275)

my limit is 15k and i have sorted out few cards...

HD 5850 ( ~15k)
275 (~12k)
280/285 (~17k)

i am a pure n blind nvidia fan no matter wat... but this time me planning to give ATI a shot...
5850 supports DX11 n no doubt thts the future... but have frnds say the diff between 275/285 and 5850 with DX11 doesnt seem much...
i ll be going for sli/crossfire after 4 more months...

suggestions plz...

5850 hands down. When crossfired, this would play any game you throw on at highest settings at full HD or 1920x1200 . :)

I guess GTX285 is slightly older than HD5850 so if you have already short listed these then 5850 is your best bet beacause of the following reasons:
1)Cost - The 5850 is less expensive
2)Performance - The 5850 outperforms the GTX285 in virtually every case
3)DX11 - 285 is only DX10 and the newer DX11 games are coming this year, why would you deprive yourself from eye candy?
4)Overclocking! - The 5850 can be overclocked to 5870 speed and beyond.

To answer your concerns: ATI cards are more driver heavy than Nvidia. They usually release a new driver each month, the last being 9.12 (12 meaning the month). This doesn't mean you have to update every month, but sometimes there are compelling reasons. I usually check out the Technology content trusted by users all around the world :: TweakTown website as they usually have an AIT driver analysis with some of the latest cards and performance increases or decreases. The ATI drivers allow you to easily overclock as well. You just unlock the overdrive tool via a button and move the slider.
Another note: I see you mentions you have been an Nvidia customer for quite some time. I've seen many people in your shoes lately because ATI has their new shiny cards out and Nvidia has yet to do anything. It puts you in a hard place where you want to upgrade and you have been loyal to the green team, but the red team has all the shiny new stuff out right now.

actually order ma 5850 frm US :D and is on its way ;)
but had an option to for 285 and give 5850 to ma bro :no:

just wanted to make a choice... thx for a review once again :clap:

Single HD5850 is enough to chew any game @ 1920 with full setting..
@ OP : As you have been loyal customer of Nvidia, you can wait for Fermi mainstream cards which is gonna to be launched in March/April.. if you're in hurry and can't wait, there is none other choice other than HD5850 @ your specified budget..:)

Stick to Nvidia if u want "Peace of Mind" rather than fiddling with ATI's driver issues all d time ;)

Wud advise u to wait over a months time though .

5850 is good buddy...no doubt but.. isnt 275 better.. Ati drivers suck acc. to me..

Actually 275 is also good but the nvidia card that usually comes close to 5850 and gets compared to it, is 285 which itself is slightly older than 5850 and lacks DX11.
 
Oo :D well I prefer Nvidia 'cause of the drivers basically.. Nvidia cards perform a little faster at rendering... I am in animation field.. had Nvidia earlier but now ATI.. seriously... in my experience Nvidia was better ...

Please, ATI drivers are just as good. More are released as compared to nVidia. Why you scaring of new guys like this.

You used a gaming card for animation -- not a PRO series card..?
