Best Internet Security available in India

dOm1naTOr

Level D
Which is the best Internet Security Pack available in India (Online or local shops). By best i mean, good protection and vfm. I have been using KIS for past 2 years. This time ive bought around 12 liscences total from KIS, Bit defender and AVG for all my home PCs and for some friends here. My experience

*KIS: Fairly good experience with this one but bit resource hungry

*Bitdefender: Good protection but adding exclusion doesnt work and totally screwup most game exe. Nightmare for those trying out softwares and games with unsuported patches/mods;)

*AVG: worst of the lot. Havnt found a single pros for this one yet.

*Forticlient free: havnt found why they call it even a security software/AV. Only thing working is their VPN suit.

pour in your experience guys.

I had very good experience with NIS 2011 - NIS security Suites,

Pros- Very low resource, Good GUI, Easy control over most settings, rated top in Benchmarking of all anti virus suites, good boot times, good detection rate

Cons - No warning before deleting infected file, heavy update downloads, nothing major.., priced very high compared to other solutions, can be easily cracked by

I've used KIS from 2006 to KIS 2009..

Pros - Good interface , professional Spy design layout, Very heavily customizable, fair detection rates, very good value for money, not easily crackable.

Cons - Resource hog, annoying pop-ups for all activities.

For me, NIS worked best and scores high in all aspects.

Download this and read for detailed information on why NIS scores more.

KIS :

I have used KIS for more than 3 years till I upgraded to NIS2012 this year, just to feel the difference in both security suites.

KIS is really perfect for the price at which it retails, Firewall is better compared to more IS suites out there in market. GUI is very easy to understand for any user. Antivirus and malware protection is decent.

The biggest Plus point for KIS: Never gives false positives. No keygen or game crack from a legit uploader is caught as virus/malware etc.

I have never formatted my Hard drive due to any malfunctioning of OS coz of virus activity (formatted only while changing HDD's or Intel to AMD switch), KIS has protected my PC well for many years.

Almost all PC's today have minimum 2GB DDR3 ram, so I never found it resource hungry by any means. The Full system scan can take more time compared to NIS.

Quick scan option for removable medias is definitely useful and fast.

For people complaining over annoying popups, KIS has an option to take action automatically. In some cases user prefers a security suite to ask for the action to be taken, which helps in stopping unwanted deletion of files.Atleast I prefer it.

NIS :

Now I am using NIS and typically it has the tendancy to treat cracks/keygens as virus/malware (I can understand the purpose of this - to kill piracy) and automatically deletes it, but nonetheless we have got an option to add that particular file/crack to exemption.

The capability of Norton in removal of virus/malwares etc is well known and its the top notch security suite. The detection rates are quite high compared to other suites. Booting time and Shutdown time of a PC with NIS is slightly less than PC with KIS. Hasnt got the QUICK SCAN option as KIS.

A 10 users NIS pack for ~3230/- bucks is worth buying...

PS : I have voted for KIS.....(Coz our Master blaster Tendulkar uses KIS ;) just kidding) NIS is on my PC from a month or so, still a year left, will take time to know about the pros and cons (if any)...

personally KIS is the one worked best for me. And yes its highly customizable and the best thing about it is it will always show the detected file and the actions done. One way its annoying but we get to know what is being done to our files (especially the game exe ;) and adding exclusions does work. But KIS 2012 boasts of cloud protection, where most of the files are scanned/processed in cloud servers rather than our own PC if internet is available and we enable the cloud feature. But that way wont they get to know about our personnel files and those exe files we are using. Not that they can do anything about it but it just will be tampering with our privacy.

But Bitdefender is silently deleting those exe files and other zip/rar files from torrents and adding exclusion is just like painting on water. Even after stopping real time protection, file AV, and all kinds of protection , im unable to put a new copy of that exe files there saying "Access denied > Check if you have write permission in this location". just wf* ? Im being denied from copy/pasting files in my own system hdd locations? I checked the ntfs and special permission of those directories and eveything is intact but still that annoying dialogue shows up while copying even after all those exclusions and stoping all services, as if the suit thinks ive completely handed over my rights to all my files/system to Bitdefender.

Im reverting back to KIS of which ive 6 liscences left. Will be using KIS only for all 6 of my systems. Next time will surely try NIS.

Point: For those who doesnt care to use any cracks or such stuffs and want complete protection Bitdefender seems a good choice.

btw has anyone used Microsoft's own Security essential? Heard its good and really really light and is FREE too, just that the copy of Windows Vista/7 needs to be legit.

Trust me, twice I have made a mistake in recommending BDIS to my friends (its cheaper than KIS)... Those friends were just average users and so found it really difficult to get accustomed to UI of BDIS... They used to call me to sort out things. This year gave them a KIS ;) and they are using it without any hassles.

If we get Windows 7 og then how comes MSE is free ;) (marketing policy to give something free) ... However, MSE is really worth. I have installed it in many laptops which come with genuine windows license and believe me it gives same protection as guaranteed by KIS or BDIS etc

Good point, but around 80% of home users having legit Win7 are laptop users(bundled Win7 copy) and for them being light is the primary objective as most budget lappys have memory <4GB and mobile processors which arent as efficient as desktop ones.

KIS all the way.. it is customizable upto the last drop.. every application detail can be set.. ultimate.. actually i had reviewed KIS 2011 in another forum and the review ran on for 12 pages.. too many options..

also KIS 2012 boasts of the best detection rates among all the antivirus suites.. Granted it may use slightly higher memory than norton but it is much better and safer..

NIS has a nagging habit of deleting harmless files and calling it malware!! just deletes them and settings menu is crap literally.. the options are juggled and not well laid out.. To disable a programs access to the net i have to go through three options.. also unlike KIS there is no option to limit the file's access to personal information a-la ORIGIN:) All in all norton relies too heavily on its own databases to classify and coordinate everything making users look like dumb idiots with not much control.. It is recommended for newbs in my opinion and not for us;)

I am certainly not a newbie as far as selection of IS/AV suites is concerned... Yes I love kaspersky internet security ..... But NIS has got tweaking options too, which are hard to find and define for a newbie, for US its easy to play with it... In detection of malwares/viruses/spywares NIS is ahead than KIS and believe me you should agree on it.... But we can say KIS is definitely VFM, perfect suite at a perfect price and thats what makes me vote for KIS. Not that NIS is bad :)

I never used any AV / IS from past 5 years & currently don't have any. If you know not to click when it reads "You have won 750,000,000 GBP & a free wife" you don't need an AV.

But I vote for KIS. The UI is really good & user friendly. And vfm too. In freeware I vote for Avira [my friends call it Chatri Antivirus :P].

This No-antivirus thing will work only if your pc/laptops is never used by others, In my case everyday someone will stick their virus infested pendrives, external hard drives for copying movies, docs etc and also someone else may use it for browsing for just 2-3 mins but may click on such banners/websites :P

I would say MSE if you have legit windows imho cant really go wrong with it of course just having any ANTI-VIRUS isn't enough also need ANTI-MALWARE / SPYWARE my recommendation is MSE + Malwarebytes Anti-Malware OR MSE + SUPERAntiSpyware

Very true. Just leave the laptop with some friends for 5 mins and they will have successfully installed a bunch of viruses when we return. They always try to get things done fast, not secure. Most of them disable/quits any AV protection before hand and go to my computer and double clicks their thumb drives..... and there it goes :P And most of them blames the Av suits the reason, which i purchased for them and finally blames turn on me for purchasing their so called incompetent AV suits.

The proactive defence of FREE AV suites are vulnerable to virus/malware... Try installing a FREE AV on a PC with loads of virus, I guarantee you that no AV suite will be able to install properly. Some AV gets installed and then after a restart they fail to even launch. Believe me I have tried each and every free antivirus on my Office PC (This PC was literally a VIRUS BANK)... Then I installed KIS trial on this PC (Why would I spend for a full version for office - Never)... KIS installed successfully and cleaned many virus/malwares and after 2 to 3 days suddenly it stopped launching too. Then I tried trial version of NIS and guess what, it removed even more viruses and totally cleaned the PC keeping itself running for 15 days(trial was for 15 days only)... So the point is if FREE antivirus can provide good protection, then everyone would use FREE version, why would the same developers release a PAID version?? There is a reason behind it, and I am sure you know what I am talking about :)... Take my comment positively.....

PS: L&T (my office) has Symantec endpoint protection, but it blocks forums like TE denying access to it. So I have somehow managed to remove it without being the admin. Thats the reason behind trying all suites on this office PC :)

Anyone knows how is KIS enterprise security? and NIS ? Currently using Trend Micro Enterprise at office. Myself working at systems dept feels it highly useless and would recommend something better to my HOS. But the enterprise versions sure wont be available in inr and will be damn expensive. Linux installer(.rpm or .run or .apt) is a welcome.

We have symantec endpoint and its good for an enterprise network. Our IT dept has told me that next financial year they are going for kaspersky enterprise security.

AFAIK trend micro is also a good suite... @dominator : Any more experience in trend micro??
