Best LCD TV as monitor for me

DO NOT BUY ANY SONY 550 SERIES IF NOT EU VERSION as Asian/Indian ones have no PC mode via HDMI so text is horrible on it (I had got one & suffered)

also don't buy 32"+ if you want it as a PC Monitor as aliased text problem doubles after 32" & you can see pixels too then

best is to buy Sony V450, Sony W450 or Samsung 6 Series 32" max

^^oops, will keep that in mind bro.Can anybody plz post some info/experience/pic on how bad text will be with 32/32+ sized LCD TVs when used as monitors?

AFAIK Udit, Shripad, Sharekhan are few members who use a 32incher as their PC display. Udit has already put his experience. PM the others?

I've been to Sheru's place a lot of times, and his setup doesn't look bad at all, I guess he's connected his PC through VGA port ... however please note that both Funky and Sheru have HD ready(720p) displays, if it makes a difference et all.

btw I'll be connecting my PC to the TV just to check this out, will let you know how it goes :)

Sorry for the delay, but was waiting for better pics, anyway here goes ...

PC via VGA :

Incase it's not clear from the pics the tv is very much usable as a monitor, had no problems once i tweaked a few settings(mostly increasing the sharpness :P)

this was using VGA, HDMI would be atleast similar, if not better :)

Some other pics ...

TV via regular Coaxial Cable :

Games via VGA :

HD (720P) :

* If you see a yellow steak at the center, thats the sunlight filtering through the curtains, since I've taken the pics at noon when the room has a lot of sunlight :)

If you want more/better pics I'll take them at night and post later, the black levels are really very good with this tv, sadly the pics can't show it.

anyway, get a series 5/6 samsung FHD 32", you wont be dissapointed

Ya i had a look but didnt exactly note which model it was, now that you have mentioned it, its great.

Whats the major difference between series 5 and series 6 anyone got a clue ?

also in series 6 there is no 32 incher available on samsung website

well the series 6 uses a higher spec panel and also has the 100hz samsung calls it AMP or auto motion plus.

samsung sell the series 6 LED lcd since its main rival is the sony 32W550A.both are priced about the same.they unfortunately don't sell the series 6 32" lcd in india, samsung are aggressively pushing LED lcds, higher profit margins.

plasma is not good for text I hear

BTW if u are not in a hurry u could wait for christmas or newyear offer, currently the tvs that u have shortlisted like B530 costs about 51k,but back in diwali offer it was as low as 47k with free upscaling dvd player and store freebies,so expect some offers for christmas and newyear.

after using a 32" Full HD I suggest you don't buy a tv as a monitor unless a 26/27" 1080p or 32/40" 1600p releases instead buy a 27" Dell 2709WFP

Samsung Series 5 46" or Samsung Series 6 40" is the doubt now.... :D both are around the same price +/- 5k.

After scanning the forums for some answers, I goto reinstate some very important points that people dont seem to pay too much attention to.

1. Distance of viewing

2. The input signals

3. The amount of money being spent

Mostly in that order of things, if the distance of viewing isint too large, then going with a 720p over a 1080p anyday makes sense. Atleast in today's day and age when technology is moving at the speed that it is, buying a top of the line LCD/Plasma/LED wont make much sense since most of the content being delivered to the television is going to be either in 480p/720p tops and the occasional movie downloaded at 1080p.

Once the JVC's GD Series and Sony's turn up in the market and there's going to be enough 3D content out there, your going to have to upgrade anyways. I've used the JVC's in a demo environment (considering they are passive stereoscopic monitors that can do side by side/line seq) full 1080p and also used them for the last 20 days (they arent commercially available anywhere in the world and are only in limited supply in the US and Japan at the moment) and they are freaking fantastic both in 3D and 2D mode.

Hold it out guys.. the future is definitely moving forward with both display resolutions and content.

So my two cents, go with a decently sized 720p and save a tonne of bucks and then go in for the huge upgrade once its here. At best, the 720p will double up as a good PS3/XBox unit and as a glorified image viewer in less than a year or so :)

Mithun bhai,.... whatever you said may be true... but at TE many people are well ahead of times...:D . I remeber people buying TV sets with NICAM stereo ten years back. Sala in India we still don't get simple stereo transmission on majority of channels and NICAM has become outdated.

In redbull's cased it is his PC use that justifies his purchase, otherwise for watching broadcast TV / watching DVD movies any thing bigger than 40" is a waste as it looks crap.
@redbull, why the bias against LG.

bigbyte, i agree.

I was merely referring to the dilemma that reading through forums puts you through. In fact i rely very heavily on recommendations of pro users like you guys to go decide on the feature sets hardware that I like to procure.

With regard to PC use, the quality that you can pull off from a GPU to a Cinema Display in terms of resolution far outreaches what a television can do. The KURO's are good monitors no doubt and so are the series 11's fed via SDI, but you cant feed over 1080p's to them. As a computer monitor, having a GPU card that can pump resolutions over 2k would eventuate far greater visual clarity than any consumer and prosumer plasma/LCD/LED - but they do look good!!! :)

So its a balance of both worlds that I was also reffering to. Getting what works for you and would make do for the a good period of time and keep you happy. I mean, I waited for 11 years before I could save enough money to buy my Thunderbird. I havent even thought of buying another bike for the last 7 years that I've had it :)

Cheers brother.
