790GX would be available somewhre in August..Gigagbyte 780G is good one with better service support.. X2 4800+ is fine for your needs..:D:

I believe 790 mobos are being priced at ~ USD 200-250. They infact will be a very good CF solution if 790FX chip can do hybrid CF/teaming with upto 4 discrete ati card(s). It would mean huge amount of energy savings when not playing games.

Can anyone tell me what all is requried to build a hybrid crossfire?

First of all it works on VISTA & supports only 2400 series, 3650 series and 3670 series cards....

the jury is still out on that....780g only supports 34xx and 24xx, 790fx was supposed to support more, still cant really find anything on teh intarwebs

neo x2 4800+ and GA 780g board will make d best VFM IMO for ur budget...get a corsair vx450 smps too tht wud be very gud stable setup for 24x7;)......also if the board has solid caps then its indeed great for extended life....as for the aftersales service gigabyte is way better than jetway n asus(rashi).

@ bikey, wingzero and others: i have decided to settle for the corsair smps and the 4800+ proci...

the gigabyte motherboard looks good... hunting for reviews of it...

currently checking out its linux compatibility especially ubuntu and suse.... ubuntu 8.04 crashes on my current asus m2n-mx....

Let me put it this way-

also if the board has solid caps then its indeed great for intended life

(as in should hopefully last as long as you plan to keep it in service.)
OR
If motherboard doesn't have solid caps, atleast in VRM/PWM area, then it's indeed not so great even for "intended" life.

^ When you spam- spam with some relevant info too. :P
Have you noticed a significant drop in component quality past few years, esp on mobos?
Maybe you should check out old and new stuff side by side from the same manufacturer.
And it's applicable everywhere.
TalKing about decade old stuff is pointless anyways.
My 20yr old Godrej fridge still runs whisper quite without a single service till date- touchwood- and all other new ones i have seen grunt like starving pigs- as if some megawatt generator turned on. :(

^ my ECS PIII mobo without solid state caps still runs like a charm...
You "intended" to run it for 8-10 yrs maybe!!

These days even manufacturers know not many intend to use their stuff beyond 3yrs at the most whereas it used to be 5-7 years earlier.
If it dies before warranty period and if you get a new one, then good for you.
Cos they know, for most regular peeps- "won't die = won't buy"- new h/w i.e. :P
Ain't everyone compromising on quality these days in the name of optimisation?? :(
