hi, i have got a p4 processor @ 2.4 Ghz, need a good motherboard for that budget 3-4 thousand

purpose of this pc is for programming like VB.Net etc

kindly guide,

thanks in advance

Sell ur processor for 1k or so n get AMD Athlon X2 245 + Biostar 785G3 -6.5-7k...if u still want cheaper soln then get Intel E5200+gigabyte g31 for 5.5k...

Dont go Intel P4 motherboard since it has already reached EOL(end of life) plus even next 2 generations of Intel processor viz.Pentium D and core2 duo have reached EOL...but still u could grab E5200 ...good enough for VB.Net...

If u still want P4 motherboard...go for Intel 915/965 boards whichever supports ur processor...If u find them 915 should be available for 3k n 965 for 5k

Yup as Rohan30186 says spending 3-4k on a P4 mobo is worthless. Plus most leading manufacturers have stopped making these boards.
Esp when u can get decent dual core processor+ mobo for < 5.5k its better to upgrade ur proccy and mobo,
Intel E5300(3k) + Gigabyte G41ME-S2L(2.3k) - 5.3k (DDR2 based)
AthlonII X2 240(2.9k) + Asus M2N68-AMPLUS(2.35k) - 5.25k (DDR2 based)

+1 ^^^^ better to go for a new rig rather spending money on old rig or if still u want to go for any 945 series mobo

Althought there are mobo available based on 845chipset from Zebronics @ 1800/- but I would also advise you do a platform upgrade as suggest by others. So I wanted to point out that apart from CPU+Motherboard, you may also need to upgrade RAM and SMPS.

If you are not ready for upgrade due to high costs, then you can buy Intel Atom Based Solution.

Intel Atom CPU + motherboard = Rs2900

1GB DDR2 RAM = 1100

Total = Rs4000/-

my advice is buy a chinese 945 motherboard with 1gb DDR2 RAM which support socket 478 processors and they use ddr2 RAM.
they gave decent performance than 845 ddr1 boards.

or if you have ddr1 RAM availible then buy 845 chinese board you will save a lot
if you are not going to use cpu intensive apps.

or find a second hand 845 or 865 board.

The reason i dont want to upgrade is already i have an p4 processor, hence just need to buy motherboard and ram and smps.

this is what i have decided

@Edit

Got to buy Gigabyte Ga -G41M -ES2H for 3,400 - ( it has DVI and HDMI port as well )

DDR2 Ram 2gb - 2,100

and Corsair VX 450 SMPS

hope all approves this.

Mate you cant fit a P4 processor in this mobo :S Just sell your processor.

Plus you do not need a VX450 for your needs.

Get this config. instead.

Intel E5300/E5400 - 3-3.1k

Gigabyte G31/G41ME-S2L - 2.3-2.4k ( Better to buy a G41 as it has better IGP for 50-100rs. more)

Kingston 2GB 800MHz DDR2 RAM - 2-2.1k

FSP SAGAII 350w - 1.5k/ Zebronics Pro 350w - 1.5k. (Both these PSU would suffice even if you add a GPU like a HD5670 to your rig).

As Gaurish has mentioned only Zebronics has P4 mobos in the market. Its totally worthless spending 2k on it. Quality is not as good as mobos from Asus/Gigabyte.

Before we tell you to procedd let us know whether you have socket 478 or socket 775 processor?i think you will be having the socket 478.

or

sell your processor&get AMD sempron 140 with Asus M2N68AM mobo would be around 3.7k..better than atom solution...:)

you are wrong:P

your Pentium 4 @ 2.4 Ghz has 478pins, so they would be compatible with Socket 478 motherboard. Gigabyte GA - G41M-ES2H board is Socket 775 motherboard, hence it won't fit.

In the Newegg page, Pentium is referred to Pentium Dual Core CPU aka E5300 which has 775 pins and therefore are compatible.

  • DDR3 RAM prices have shot up in the last week or so. Now a 2GB DDR3 RAM costs 2.6-2.8k :(
