Galvanizer
For heavy casual use :P, and some gaming.

Must:
-Be ambidextrous, since I am left-handed.
-NOT crop up the double-click issue that plagues almost every half-decent mouse today.

I use an MS 1.1 currently and it has started double-clicking almost every damn time. I don't want to get a 1.1 again even though I think it has the best shape/weight ever simply because of these clicking issues.

I have heard that Razer mice are also infamous for rampant double-click problems so I would stay away from these as well.

And therein lies the dilemma as the 1.1 and the Razers are the only decent ambidextrous mice around.
Unless you guys can suggest some more...

Mx518.

Great build quality,reasonably high dpi(1800).

I get lazy sometimes and lean my right hand rest my head on it while surfing with my left hand with no problems,so no dexterity issues :P .

The SideWinder X3 from Microsoft, should be under 1400/1500. Haven't used it but it looks good for a left-handed user. Laser tracking though.

He wants an ambidextrous mouse..so the mx518 is out.
For casual use why not get a low-end wireless mouse from logitech or microsoft? Should fit your budget, and the lack of wires would be a blessing from the usability/aesthetic point of view.

The mouse needs to be ambidextrous, so the MX518 is out of the question.

I was thinking the same, only these mice are prone to skipping. But on the other hand, atleast they don't crop up clicking issues within an year.
