just want to know which are the best speakers for the comp....ones which will have enough bass sound and be good enough for recording

In India, they have to be the Creative Megaworks 5.1 550. The Creative Gigaworks S 750 is also there, but they are not as good in music. And they are 7.1. Most movies do not make full use of 7.1.

If you have the cash, then go for the 5.1 550.

And if you are talking abt 2.1(for music, 2.1 is by far the best), then people talk abt the ALtec Lansing MX 5021 as one of the best......

hmm depends on your budget too man... ya altec lansing is pretty darn good.. you can also try creative inspire 2.1 for rs 1900... good enough really...
or even the creative sbs. live 2.1 for 1400.. pretty cheap....
it depends on what you upgrading from .. i ha crappy stereo speakers b4 which couldnt handle volumes above 50% :( .. belive me i had them for a good 4 years!!
and now i got inspire 2.1 and they sound like heaven!! even at full voumes!
and if you want surround sound then you can go for..
creative 5.1 for 4700.. (i`m not a creative dealer just had the prices with me).. lol..
the best in my opinion are custom made surround speakers..

The best readily available in India is either the Megaworks 550 or the Logitech Z680. Depends upon ur taste. The Klipsch Promedia 5.1 Ultra is available as well for something close to 40K if u can afford it ;).

The Klipsch is not available...... and 40K is waay too much for it. Even 25K is too much.

I suggest the 5.1 550. the Z-680 is also not available at a decent price.....

The 5.1 550 is around 23K. The Z-680 is 30K.

And have a look at the feature set of both. Sound quality wise, the Creative Megaworks is slightly better(not by much, mind you....). But the Logitech wins when it comes to connectivity. But most people do not use so many connections.

Are you going to be connectiong your speaker set to a DVD player, Xbox, PS2 or any other console??? Are you going to be connecting digital devices to the computer????

If your answer is no, then you do not really need a Z 680..... But when it comes to Bass, it is the most poiwerful but some people say that it is too boomy and could have been tighter......

My take on this is to wait a month or two and get the Altec Lansing HMX 7051. It'll kill the megaworks as well as z-5500 if insider reports are to be believed.

And if it is priced in the range of 10-15K. If it is also very expensive, it is a waste.........
Its expected to be in the region of 350$ in the states. Altec speakers are generally well priced in India. So expect it to be available for around 20-25K here. Here's the speculative featureset
650W RMS output
10" sub
MX5021 type satellites with more power
analog, optical, coax and USB input.

USB is very interesting as one can do away with the soundcard in that case. So you end up saving 80-100$ on it :).

but zeta is the distro for altec right ? and now that they are closed will we still be getting altec stuff ?

yeah the klipsch sells for 37k here in chennai (audio ppl). remember enquiring last time

ah never mind just saw your other post where u mentioned that rashi is the new distro

Nope... Dunno if it got canned :P. However if you are looking for pure audio quality in music, grab an MX5021 instead of Z5500/megaworks. If you want surround then those would be okay. The mx5021 is miles better than z5500 in sheer accuracy. I heard the z-5500 at the DFI launch and it seemed to have a rather muddy midrange and non existent highs compared to the MX5021. It has a huuuuuge sub though if lots of bass is what you want!

also u should mention the amazing songs they were playing on the z5500. u really cant call that a demo.

& z680 costing more than z5500 here???
& if u got the budget & want best quality out of these get the klipsch promedia 5.1 or get the z5500 for 21k. its better than the creative cause its got more options & a decoder. cant say quality wise cause i havent heard the creative.

True their song selection was crap but then you do get the general idea how a speaker sounds no matter what is playing! However I could be wrong and it might perform dramatically better with a better source but I have my doubts.

also it will perform better when any speakers & woofer are placed properly in a room, especially in corners etc. here it was just kept anywhere. i dont even know if they kept the rear & front properly.

^ LOL Totally agree. Sadly the Logitech Z-5500's werent set up to show their best light at the DFI Launches.

They were connected to the onboard sound of the DFI boards, now nothing wrong with the DFI but onboard sound is onboard sound.. a dedicated Live! 24-bit at the very least would've improved sound. Secondly, since i've never used a Z5500 before I'm not sure about it .. but I felt they hadnt set it up right, some of the speaker channels werent playing etc. Thirdly, 128Kbps MP3s are a bad way to showcase high-end speakers :ohyeah:

intex 2.1 is good enough imo. i got them for around 950 a while back. sounds pretty darn good for the price. for regular listening and movie watching it should do the job.

They are crap, speakers like the intex and my sbs370 don't deserve to be even mentioned in this thread. These are strictly make-do speakers for casual use (although the bass on the sbs370 is surprisingly tight for such a cheap set).
