Use HDDTune as suggested by CA50.

You could also try Spinrite. Although you will need an *cough* pirated *cough* version. It is mainly for the recovery side, but can find bad sectors too.

^^^ I'm not sure for WD drives , but you may try " SeaTools " by Segate itself.

It certainly did detect and REPAIR bad sectors on my segate HDD using the dos version.

@shravank30, so you have got bad sectors, either you can remap those using vivard or can send the drive fro RMA

For a single bad sector, WD will accept an RMA request ?

Moreover due to the acute crisis of HDD availability , is it advisable to give the HDD for RMA & wait indefinitely for replacement.

Thanks for advising

I have the Spinrite program in ISO format

Should i load it in Alcohol & run it ?

What the best way to run it & which options should i choose ?

Thanks for advising

@spinrite,

- Yes mate, you are eligible for RMA even for a single bad sector. But in time of HDD crisis, the RMAed HDD will be refurnished one. Also right now HDD RMA might take some extra time as well.

- Personally i haven't used spinrite, for any kind of sector reallocation, so i have got no idea on it.
- But as i have said before, try vivard, you can download it separately, or you can get it in Hiren Boot CD/Ultimate Boot CD.
Its very easy to use, my personal favorite :)

Spinrite is a DOS based boot program, you need ot burn it and boot form disc. also set the SATA mode to IDE emulation if needed.
