Hi,
Like a lot of posters have mentioned, Asics is a good brand for running shoes. Also, Brooks Running. I would stick with either of these two.
Before you decide on the brand, you need to determine whether you have a neutral foot, or if you overpronate, or underpronate. Most of the shoes sites have a guide as to how you can determine what kind of shoe is best for you.
Look at this site.
ASICS America - Running - Shoe Fit Chart
Secondly, if you want to get Brooks running (
Brooks Running - Men's & Women's Running Shoes and Apparel ) or Asics, you can get them via KMD on this forum.

If you want to source your shoes locally, then I could recommend you the Adidas Response Cushion 18. I use the earlier revision, called Cushion 17, and they are quite good for running.
No matter what you read regarding running shoes lasting 2 to 3 years and such, the rule of the thumb is generally 400 miles or so for a pair of running shoes. Don't look at the wear to decide if it is time to replace your running shoes, some of these new-fangled materials like Adiwear have little wearing, so it is difficult to make out by looking at a shoe if it is time to replace them. For example, for me, I have to replace my running shoes every 6 months.
Again, it is very important you determine your foot type, high-arched, neutral, or flat. Even if you are going to buy from the local Reebok and Adidas store, you should know what kind of shoes will be best suited for you. Don't just go there and buy the one you "like."
Tip: Buying locally can be relatively expensive. For example, Adidas Response Cushion 18 retails for around 5500/- which is like $122. This is essentially a $80-$85 shoe..where you end up paying much more. I would suggest you look for deals on Amazon for running shoes and you can maybe get a $120 for around the same price or less! And there is a big difference in good shoes and average ones.
Hope this helps.
