Best screen capture utility

I take screenshots a lot and pasting them in the mspaint and saving them in JPG is a PITA!

Is there any such utility that makes the whole screen a canvas just by pressing the print screen button where I can just crop the area I want and it gets saved at some location.

The best I've used is Snag It.

But for your purpose, would something like this (Quick Screen Capture Free) suffice?

(I have not used it myself though)

You will never need anything else.

You can use Hypersnap...it has capability to auto scroll and capture entire page if page is too long in browser...but it's not free...anyways...if you want to capture only focused windows not entire screen use Alt+Print Screen...I use this always

i use irfanview image viewer for viewing images.

it has option to take screenshots n save them in jpg automatically to you desired location.

The snipping tool is a charm really. Found it out accidentally one day, and have been using it ever since. I just wish it had more editing features though.
